Starting point: We are the owner of a well-kept Eriba/Hymer Nova caravan from 1994 – that is, an oldi. The car was always under roof outside of the holiday periods, which will soon be impossible due to a move. On the one hand, parking spaces in halls or similar are expensive, moreover rare and the car will in future also be on campsites monthly or seasonally. Even if the Hymer-Pual construction is very stable (in 1994 they were not completely wood-free), I fear, that with the age of the seals and sealing compounds a permanent stay outdoors is not good due to rain and UV radiation. The paint on the roof crawls out for a long time… Now I think about letting the car have a protective roof. The things are also available for driving with TÜV acceptance. At the front and back they go down quite far (such as window awnings), left and right they stand over 10 cm each. So a roof weighs completely with surrounding aluminium rim and lighting etc. c a. 66 Kg, which would fit just so weight-wise. Of course is not quite cheap, completely mounted with TÜV acceptance I have an offer for 4.4 TE. It’s about getting the car the best possible, I have converted many things and optimized for us and also invested in the vehicle technology (brakes, suspension, clutch) and wants to drive the still various years. Now the question(s): Will the driving behavior change significantly by the weight “on the roof” according to your opinion b Does anyone here have any experience with a viable protective roof – you can see it almost never? And are there any other thoughts about my considerations?
