The abbreviation i-VTEC tauc the first time in 2003 with the combination VTEC (toggle between different cam profiles) and VTC (toggle the inlet camshaft). Since then the name has remained unchanged, although it stands for different versions of the variable valve control. The ‘i’ means ‘intelligent’ by the way, but does not describe any technical specification
