In my car the middle position of the rear axle was shifted by 2 mm to the left. This is within the manufacturing tolerance, but means that the left rear wheel is 2 mm further outside in the wheel box, whereas the right rear wheel is 2 mm further inside. The difference of a total of 4 mm could be I was still fine. I have already seen an Audi TT, which had a lateral offset of 5 mm on the rear axle. This looked grotesque. In such cases, it may happen that a wheel is free-access on one side, but grinds on the other side of the wheelhouse. I had the centre position of the rear axle corrected, for a 3-digit € amount. Unfortunately, a warranty case was not available here (production tolerance). the difference from the middle below 0.5 mm; good work. On front axles had not seen such a lateral offset so far.
