Dear Volvo community, after the past cars were Mercedes, I would like to take a look at something new and had a Volvo in mind. Of interest to me is a V40 Cross Country Since I have no idea what to expect from a Volvo, I wanted to ask you something for advice. I’ve already had a lot of fun in the forum. I’m looking for a reliable car with comfort and “gloss”, therefore the idea with the V40. My questions: 1. I’ve read that the D4 engines with 190 hp probably cause problems (risse). Does this concern only this diesel engine or are the problems also to be observed with the D3 and D5? 2. As I read, the gasoline engines are noticeably more reliable. Am my impression correct? 3. Automatic would be great for me, therefore my question. Are the automatic transmissions reliable? 4. Volvo installs timing belts that have to be changed at the latest at 150,000 km? 5. Are there years of construction that should be avoided? 6. Otherwise, I’d be happy about hints that a Vovo newcomer should definitely pay attention to when buying a used car.
