New VERSO with 1.8 L petrol engine (Valvematic) sufficient?

Hello dear forum, we are faced with the decision to hand over our 3 year old Corolla Verso D-CAT (Diesel, 177 HP) (Leasing End) and to buy a new one. With the VERSO as a car we are in principle (equipment) satisfied. The new D-CAT does not come into question because we drive almost 90% short distance in the city and in the last 6 months had very big problems with the free burning of the soot particle filter (see the thread below). In contrast, the acceleration values of the D-CAT were always great. We would like to decide now for the new 1.8 L petrol engine with 147 hp – unfortunately there is no useful test report for this engine in the entire network except for a (very negative) article of the ADAC? According to my information this engine should also be installed in the new Avensis (since 01/2009 in D on the market) – but here I found nothing useful (also not in the Avensis forum here on the page). W he from the Moto experts can tell us whether this engine offers reasonably reasonable driving performance? It does not matter to us at the top speed, but rather the elasticity when overtaking (e.g. acceleration from 80 km/h to 120 km/h etc.). According to the ADAC report at least in the Avensis a transmission should be installed, which has a very long translation in the 5th and 6th gear – not exactly optimal for short sprints. Thanks in advance to all who can say something about this. Stefan
