Term Range Rover

Since I hardly know the brand, but I am beginning to be more interested in it, I have the following question. I always assumed that the term Range Rover is used to refer to the top model of the Land Rover range. For 5 years now there has been Range Rover Sport, which is one number smaller, but still the second most expensive model in the Land Rover range. When I looked at the website, however, I was completely irritated. On the homepage, the model is divided into two categories. Defender, Freelander and Discovery as Land Rover and Range Rover Sport, Range Rover and Evoque as Range Rover. However, the Evoque is designed as an entry-level model still below the Freelander… why is this a Range Rover and what then distinguishes a Range Rover in contrast to a Land Rover?
