Grinding and polishing paint – Questions

After I tried to paint a car for the first time in my life this week (single spots, rust sanded off), it did not become particularly beautiful. ^^ At one point, for example, a slightly larger paint nose. As far as I have read in now, the next step would be: – Let paint dry (how long? is one week long?) – sand wet with 2000s/3000 wet sandpaper, using a sanding block or small wooden blocks – Polish Is d The choice is huge… And it has to be possible by hand, because I don’t have any polishing machines, let alone experience in handling them. So I would also need a hand polishing sponge, right? – I read that after polishing you have to seal the varnish, because polishing makes the paint somehow vulnerable, but I also read that you have to have new varnish aired for a few months. l and not allowed to seal. So what now? Polishing or polishing + X ?? Note: The car is about 11 years old, has more than 200,000km and also some scratches, mini stone impact damage on the bonnet etc., usual traces of use, I call this now. It should not win a beauty prize and of course I have no money. ^^ Paint is a blue pearl effect varnish (colour layer + clear varnish).
