Change of oil: 10’000 km or 1 x per year ?

Yesterday it was noon, we picked up our “new” 9-3 Aero Cabrio 05/2001 at Hirsch in St.Gallen.http://homepage.hispeed.ch/swanage/ –> new convertible … The car has 36’500 km, is from May 2001 and provides 230 hp (Hirsch Step 1). The service was all carried out at Hirsch: 30.05.01 11 km Delivery 25.01.02 9308 km incl. oil change 13.02.03 20’628 incl. oil change 07.06.05 28’959 incl. oil change 21.07.05 33’730 incl. oil change The long time span is remarkable here between 13.02.03 and 07.06.05 ! Sensitized by the many reports in this forum, probably every Saab driver asks himself whether the oil sludge problem could also affect his own car. Therefore my question: what is decisive for the change interval: the 10,000 km or the time (e.g. 1 x yearly) ? 15 years ago I was told that a change per year was mandatory because the oil water can “take up”. Is this true or with today’s fully synthetic oil not acceptable ? What is your experience ? Should I take oil pan / oil sieve at the next service and have it checked ? The competent salesman at Hirsch was of the opinion that this was not necessary. Thanks for all opinion !! Andreas
