Engines are being developed in a close network Freightliner LLC is also integrated into the components network of the DaimlerChrysler Truck Group. Detroit Diesel, for example, successfully sells MBE 4000 engines in North America and will begin assembly of the MBE 900 medium-heavy series at the end of the year. With the best power weight in its class, the MBE 4000 is the preferred engine for long-distance and distribution traffic as well as bulk freight transport in North America. The MBE 4000 engines are used in numerous trucks from Freightliner LLC and the American Group brands. The units are closely related to the European six-cylinder OM 457, used at Mercedes-Benz in the truck Axor and in the Travego touring bus. The engine range is manufactured by Mercedes-Ben by the MBE 900 series. The MBE 900 is the preferred choice for a wide range of applications for medium heavy trucks, for example special vehicles, for the food industry, in distribution, for school bus fleets, towing services or construction companies. The four- and six-cylinder engines of the 900 series with 4.25 to 7.2 litres displacement are currently being produced completely in Germany. From 2007 they will be supplied to Detroit Diesel market-specific components in the USA. n and heavy distribution trucks from Freightliner LLC are in use. These above mentioned engines from Detroit Diesel are all EPO 07 suitable and thus also fall under the Euro 5 standard. EPO 07 is more stringent than Euro 5.
