Paris – this is the new tool for Carlos Sainz. After Peugeot announced his comeback at the Dakar Rally three weeks ago, the French are now publishing the first pictures of the 2008 DKR. The Spaniard Sainz and the French Cyril Despres 2015 are supposed to be with him. Peugeot started last 1990 at the Dakar. At that time Ari Vatanen won the rally for the fourth time in a row for the French. Whether Peugeot can follow this victory series seems questionable. The 2008 DKR runs with only two driven wheels. Carlos Sainz nevertheless believes in the success: “The final result is not comparable to any other two-wheel drive car. The 2008 DKR is very compact. After I have ridden the last two ‘Dakar’s with a two-wheel drive vehicle, I am convinced that this is a concept with which to win this event, says the Spaniard. What technology is under the car’s car reveals However, it is clear that the 2008 DKR has about so much to do. Namely (almost) nothing at all. “There were two ways to tackle this task: either take a standard 2008 and adapt it with tailor-made parts or develop a new car based on the design forms of 2008 that meets all the requirements of its new mission. Finally, we chose the second way,” says Giovanni Rizzo, the exterior designer of the 2008 DKR.
