Translation 1st gear

Hello together I live in a rather mountainous area where the roads are not only flat. I notice that the new car models are being translated longer and longer. Is that just my feeling, or is that in general? What advantages would that have? Are there EU guidelines for this? What disadvantages do you see? I see only the disadvantage that my clutch blesses the time faster. I feel that the difference between 3 and 4 gears is not too big. (They should continue to auseina) In my opinion, the idle speed of the engine should result in a speed of approx. 5km/h in the first gear. In the meantime, this is mostly at 12-14 km/h (my observation). This is especially stupid when starting up, as the clutch in this area is extremely obscured. If it still goes up, the clutch has to be rather sanded up to 1400 revolutions => up to 20 km/h. I find it really bad if a lot of weight is charged or even a trailer is attached. Thank you for your answers Porenasphalt
