Some recommend to replace the wheels of a vehicle gradually, so that they wear more evenly. Here it is not about the sense or nonsense of this practice. If each (direction-free) wheel is to be used in each place, there are essentially two ways to rotate the tyres: (1) You mount the previous front wheels at the rear, and the previous rear wheels at the front, whereby you also switch left and right with the previous *back wheels*. (2) The previous front wheels are mounted in the rear, and the previous rear wheels in the front, whereby the previous *front wheels* are also switched left and right. Now to my question: Schema 1 is recommended for front wheel drive and Schema 2 for rear wheel drive. E.g. here or here. I imagine that the difference between 1 and 2 is only minimal, but there must be some reason that it is recommended in general. Does anyone know why?
