What do downsizing and all the great fuel part techniques do?

I have just come across a comparative test in the car newspaper: http://www.autozeitung.de/…/premièren-fieber&show=messwerten Here you can see clearly that the focus not only consumes the least, it is also the weakest in comparison, but also by far the greatest difference between the standard and the test consumption, only 1.1l. All others with their great, oh so economical Dowsize turbo engines need in practice at least 2 liters more and also the BMW with its As with the Audi and VW TSI, even in reality 2.5l needs more than on the brochure. So all the great technology only brings nothing on paper and in practice, apart from the cost of purchasing, maintenance and repair! How do you see it, Ford is good advice to continue to rely conservatively on durable suction engines or should one also run after the fashion trend to charge small engines, which then only need less fuel on paper?
