Dear XC70 drivers, as in another thread, I ordered an XC70 edition in the old year. Although there are a lot of threads for winter tyres in general and especially for the XC70, but I would like to hear your current opinions. In advance: The edition comes with 17” (215/60) summer tyres on aluminum. What’s wrong with driving on the XC70 with 17 Zoellern even in the winter? Are the 17” also free for snow chains? Or is it generally better, in the win In the snow etc. prefer to drive 16” (215/65) instead of 17”? For the simplicity of half steel rims (but only for 16”, or are there other reasons, which speak for light metal rims (overheating of the brakes, steering behaviour, …)? 17” I also think about it, so that I can later install a better brake system from Heico (but first test the standard brake in everyday operation). And to the tyres: I drive a lot of long distance (motorway, Somme). r like winter), but I am also almost every weekend in the mountains. In a winter like last year (which is still waiting for you) so also every weekend with snow / mud / ice on the way. From the accessories and various tests that I have read, the following tires have emerged as favourites for me, with each small conclusion: Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow: very good winter tires and also everywhere strong, but high wear / roll resistance and. Designed as 4×4 WR. Very popular with XC90, sometimes different opinions in the MT-Forum whether good or bad. Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2: very good dry tire, slightly worse than the best WR for wet and snow, extremely durable. Not extra for 4×4. Dunlop 3D: all solid, not extra for 4×4. Continental 4×4 winter contact: all solid, extra for 4×4. Michelin Latitude Alpin: very good dry tire, otherwise rather below average, very durable, e xtra for 4×4. Tendually, not track-bound tires could be better for me, as I have such a driveway from which I always have to go backwaerts, over a short steep driveway…and in winter the regularly full of snow. What meaning does it have whether a tire is specially designed for 4×4? Would I be glad if you could give me tips so that I can place the order with my owner. Thank you, Gruesse, Eduard.
