Carburettor Quadrajet

Moin I wanted to adjust my outdated carburetor yesterday and had an interesting phenomenon. It is a square J carburetor from an Oldsmobile Toronado, built in 1966 I wanted to turn down the idle speed to about 650 to 700 revolutions, when turning out the idle screw on the left so driver side of the carburetor there was no reaction. I can only reduce the speed to 800, then the screwdriver is empty. In addition when turning back and forth the two mixture grapes left and right at the foot of the carburetor at the front there was also no reaction. Especially striking was when I turned the screws with feeling completely pure the engine continued to run, normally it would have to go out because it gets no air. Am I wrong there? Did any of you already hear this problem right I had and if so how did you solve it. What could it be about. Gruss Wojtek
