The new smart – a step forward?

First of all: I think the smart is interesting and good conceptually. However, the spread seems to suffer from the insane price and the childhood diseases, this is hopefully spared by the new one, although the engine and gearbox are not further developments, but completely new. Apparently, there is a certain relationship to the new Mitsubishi i here by the way. Unfortunately, the dashboard now looks like one, here you see the saving clearly compared to the predecessor. A step backwards also means the larger dimensions. If it is now even heavier than the predecessor, the consumption also suffers. Here, however, one has to wait for what the new gasoline engines bring – the drop of the turbocharger and the significantly higher compression (11.5:1 instead of 9.0:1 are promising despite the increase in the displacement, also in terms of durability. The diesel, on the other hand, is the old, slightly spiced up, but wg. durability here probably does not go much more in terms of performance In Smart anyway, I don’t think of a complicated, expensive and weak diesel. In conclusion: bigger, heavier, faster – especially with this kind of car – is not a step backwards, but rather a step backwards. And: if he really wants to count in, he has to become significantly cheaper. Such a car *goes* only as a mass product.
