Question on winter tyres – MX5 NC Sendo with RDKS

Hi there, I have a few questions about winter tyres for our MX-5 NC 1.8 l with RDKS, which we bought in April. So far I have never been more busy with this topic with our previous cars (Opel Zafira and Tigra TwinTop) since we have received good deals from our Opel dealer, which we have relied on with confidence. Since the design is less important to us in the cold season, we always have steel rims with good winter tyres and wheel caps. When I asked about winter tyres for our MX-5, I was a little surprised at first. Steel rims don’t seem to exist or are used as good as not at all (I can also understand for design reasons, with the great car). So then aluminium rims, but which size can be driven? In the vehicle license there are 205/45R17 84 W, i.e. 17 inch rims. Can I then easily also use winter tyres on 16 inch aluminium rims. My Mazda dealer has offered me 16 inch rims from Mazda with Pirelli tires (I have to ask for the exact type again) which should be allowed for our MX-5 (example was provided by Mazda for this car …), even if only the 17 inch rims are registered in the vehicle certificate. The RDKS sensors can be mounted without any problems and a learning is probably done automatically. after a few kilometers. My questions about this concretely: – which rim size can be driven without registration etc.? – is there really no alternative with steel rims that I could fall back on? – is there still something to consider regarding RDKS? – which tires can you recommend (annual run capacity approx. 15,000 km and about half with winter tires in the rather flat Rhineland)? – in what price range should complete wheels with good winter tires move on aluminium rims or steel rims? I I am quite a newcomer on this topic and would therefore be very happy about answers to my questions and general information on this topic. Thank you so much, Tigra-Max
