Hello dear Volvo friends I’m still a student and I do a training after the Abi. Soon I have my driver’s license and since my parents always use their car themselves, hardly anything else remains for me than to get a car myself, if I don’t want to have done the driver’s license for free. Now some may wonder what I want to do here. Should I rather buy a polo or fiesta.. I always hear something like that from my relatives, and from my friends, because they don’t share my passion for Volvos at all. Then it says, “You want such an ugly part?” or “Do you already have children?”. However, my reasons for the desire for a 850 are quite simple: comfort, safety (Is mega important to me!!), plenty of space, longevity, five cylinders and somehow coolness (is there this word?). I find the 850s somehow really cool, because when you are 18 years old with such a car you don’t really like the Str om swimming, I like that So, now my question to you. Is it worth it for a student to buy an old 850, with approx. 300000 kilometers, or more? I really would like a car, which I can drive almost forever, where then individual small or also larger reperatures are worthwhile. I would also like to have it as a companion for the study after the training. So I would like to spend between 500 and 1000 euros and have to the 144 (from ’96?) or possibly 170hp petroler as a combi cht, T5 is probably too expensive in maintenance vieel, I don’t need the performance either and the one with 126hp consumes almost exactly as much as one with 144, because you have to “step” the so (please correct me if I’m wrong). Optical condition and equipment is relatively irrelevant, just have to run! But is there anything useful at all, or do I have to pay the expensive workshop costs constantly, as I have heard? What would you recommend to me, or even to me completely How do the maintenance costs look like? Dad would also explain himself ready to fill in some times, or to pay one or the other reperture, as long as it doesn’t blow the frame. What follow-up costs come to me? What else should you consider when buying? Is there anything else I need to know? I know many questions. I’m sorry too, but I would like to have such a Volvo! I hope very much you can help me! Thanks mfG Laurenz
