About New Year’s Eve I was with some Italian friends in Vienna. After the journey (from Berlin) I was glad to find a parking lot right in front of the apartment. I arrived on Saturdays and next to me had many more vehicles parked there. On Monday I wanted to take a round with my Italian friend, but the car was no longer there. There where I had parked, was absolute stop ban from Monday to Friday. There it was now unfortunately too late for me. And since in the apartment description there was literally “parking places right in front of the house”, I did not even consider the possibility that there would be something wrong. Well, the car was gone, we could pick it up against 168€ towing service fee. Now came a letter from the city of Vienna, who want to pay another 63€ penalty amount. Since our government concluded a contract with the Austrians for mutual enforcement assistance h at, I don’t really get around it. But how is it when I hire my Italian friend as a driver? The Italians don’t have a contract with them. Is this possible at all or is it basically valid in Austria? Or are there other ways to escape it? I found the 168€ already punishment enough…
