My neighbour drives a small motorcycle that sounds funny in my ears. I don’t know about motrcycles (only earlier on mopeds) but I’ve never noticed such a sound before. It’s some small cross-maschine. When the engine is running you hear the normal engine sound and additionally a kind of squeak as if you push a six-pack Selters(with foil) over a laminate floor. It’s in the beat of the rather deep engine sound. What can that be? Is that normal?

Hello, since Friday I am proud owner of my first motorcycle, a Yamaha XJ 600 S Diversion from 1999. She currently has about 24,000km on it and is throttled on 34 HP. I wonder if it might harm such old motorcycles if you let them turn out quite high in the second, third or other gears. (Of course warm driving!) Or you don’t have to worry if you bring them (even for a long time) on e.g. 8,000 tours? 3,500 to 5,000 revolutions, but when I overtake, I like to go into the second or third gear… Can this hurt the engine?
