  • New Michelin winter tires wag and vibrate. Possible causes?

Hello to the tire experts I have a question about new tires that are wagging and generate vibrations. In October 2018 I had new 18 inch Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires on (favorable) Wheelworld WH11 rims pulled up and balanced. Unfortunately, this combination produces clearly noticeable vibrations and noises above 120km/h. Also, I generally find that the tires do not run as smoothly and calmly as my 18 inch summer bikes (new Hankoo k on original VW Nogaro rims). Between summer and winter bikes lie, in terms of comfort, so worlds in between. I find a longer motorway ride with the winter bikes so really annoying, because I know how quiet the car actually runs in summer (Golf 7 GTD with DCC suspension). I had the assembly and the force done in a “favorable” workshop chain. I have the impression that this somehow did not fit. On a rim are 95g weights and the tire was Now I think that winter tyres may not be so quiet in general, as summer bikes, but I feel that the WR is running too restless, especially since it is Michelin. That’s why I had the winter bikes rebalance again, this time in another master’s workshop. I had told the master my impression of running behaviour and after wrestling he said that 2 of them had a slight imbalance, but he has now corrected this and all of them So he doesn’t get it any better. After the second fight, nothing improved, so I guess that the cheap rims are just qualitatively bad and maybe don’t run as round as expensive brand rims. Since I want to go to the comfort of the summer bikes that exclude Michelin tires and my car as a cause of error, I would now even buy new rims from BBS, hoping that this combination would be better and quieter. I know no one can look into a glass ball, but can it really be due to the favorable rims? Above all, I worry whether this constant “unbalance” or the vibrations damage the chassis or tires. How do you see it? Before that is so, I prefer to get smart brand rims and let everything properly balance. Did you have similar experiences?

  • Driven at very low pressure

Hello, something strange happened to me. I measured the air pressure of the tires in the evening and everything was fine. The next morning I drove off and the steering was a bit difficult. In the car in question there was this phenomenon more often, so I didn’t think anything more about it. During the drive the car had a left-hander, but otherwise drove “round”. After about 8 km I looked and it was obviously – in the front left there was too little air – the tank air pump after about 0.6 bar (total pressure). The wheel is currently at my workshop for inspection (I think the valve has jammed). It’s a 205/60 tire. Question: Swap or not? It only needs to be replaced because the tires are almost new. The workshop has not detected any visual damage. I’m not about saving 60 EUR now, but to be confirmed to replace the tire.

  • New alloy wheels arrived scratched – and now?

Hello together I ordered 4 aluminiums with winter tires on the internet a few weeks ago and unpacked it only this weekend. As they hung on the car I noticed that every single rim had numerous scratches from the Montier machine. The most logical would be to remove the tires again, summer tires on it and exchange them. But now the assembly has cost me something, and in a few days again the same game and gets cold and so on usf. e just mounted and the company wrote that I would like to have an exchange for new rims in the local branch of the company. The answer: “Due to the assembly of the complete wheels, a rim replacement is unfortunately no longer possible. We would like to offer you a discount of 20? per rim.” I find already great that is reacted so quickly. But the scratches remain nevertheless and 2-3 years then I should have rusted rims, right? And modest looks What would you suggest to me?

  • How much air can winter tires lose during storage?

Hello! I changed to winter tires today, because it has become quite frosty and the snow used. I bought the tires last year only new. It is Continental TS850. Over the summer they were in the garage all the time. When I wanted to put them on today, one tire was almost completely flat and the other three clearly below 1.5bar. I still had this with no car. I also find it interesting that all 4 air was lost. On what could ma n to bring it back? Perhaps a mounting error or rims or valves in the bucket?

  • Narrow Pneus – better straight run

Hello! A question for experts in the area of chassis geometry: I want my Exeo ST (= like Audi A4 B7 Avant) to drive as straight as possible on the motorway. Drive moderate speed (120 – 140 km/h), no racing ambitions. Is it true that smaller tyres (allowed are 205/55 R16 to 7×16 ET45) will keep track better than the likewise permitted 225/45 R17 to 7.5×17 ET42 or 245/45 R18 to 8×18 ET42? And is it really true that narrow tires track grooves are less strongly reduced Thank you very much for your expert input.

  • 4Motion and different rim/tire widths

Hello and meal, can someone tell mair if the current 4-motion technology is compatible with different rim widths? In the past it was said that all 4 wheels only have to be tyres and rims of the same size and dimension. U.U. even brand and type had to be the same on all fours. Background: I still have 18″-inch rims lying around from my Passat 3BG. Front 8.5″ wide with 225-ern and rear 9.5″ wide with 255-ern. Maybe these could be on a later acquired vehicle from the VW-Kon But what if this is a 4Motion? Is it possible or is it not possible?

  • Summer tire indiscriminate

Hey, I wanted to change my tyres next week and therefore I looked at my summer tyres. As you (hopefully) can see in the pictures there are some cracks to see. I asked my father, of course, but who only said that this was not so bad and I should not have ”so”. I’m not so sure about that. I had already seen a few smaller cracks in the summer, but they didn’t feel so bad. But now it’s more hee cracks and I’m not sure if that’s still Aicher driving the tires anymore (made in 2011). Maybe you can help me if it’s time to get new tires.

  • The Crux with well tested tires

After more than 70,000 km, I would have two new Pirelli Cinturato P7 225/45 R 17 front tyres raised and what do you tell me? “This type of tyre is not available at the moment. I should look in at the end of May again (at ATU). Is it more common that the tyres that have been tested particularly well (whether they are on another sheet) are sold out quickly and you can’t keep up with the production? A month means 4 – 5,000 km and really round I’m not going to be my old slats anymore. Well, I’m going to get through it. mfG Michael

  • How old (DOT) can new tires be from the dealer?

Hello forum ! I have just experienced a nasty surprise : My motorcycle trailer is now six years old and should finally get a speed 100 approval. Since trailer tyres are not allowed to be older than 6 years to drive 100, I needed two new ones. When I wanted to drive to the TÜV for registration I looked at the DOT for the first time : (0708), i.e. 7.KW 2008 !? For the 100er permission counts however the production date and not the purchase date So with these tyres not even four years instead of six years ! Can I as customer demand brand new produced tires, or can the actually be stored for several years ?
