  • Camshaft and crankshaft impulse encoders

Moin! Can you actually check with an Ohmmeter whether the camshaft pulse generator and the crankshaft pulse generator still work? Background: I stayed the other day because the engine simply didn’t sprung up spontaneously. I was towed off and decided to have both of them replaced. In addition, the ignition coil. I was 500 km away from home and wanted to come home with a healthy car. I would be interested to know if I could check them and if they were okay. I could put them aside as spare parts. Thanks for tips! Klaus

  • already forgotten ? XC90 before X5 and ML

In one article, it was assumed that no Volvo would have won a competitor’s product in comparative tests. Already forgotten ? The Xc90 has looked and won several times against competitors in Autobild, e.g. winner XC90 ahead of BMW X5, and Mercedes M-Class (the Touareg was not yet there). Here to read:http://www.autobild.de/search/article.php?artikel_id=3722 And also in edition 5/2004 (Autobild Allrad) where the Porsche Cayenne and the Touareg were present, was the XC9 0 just in front of the BMW (but behind Touareg and Porsche due to the lower terrain capability). But at least. Here to read:http://www.autobild.de/search/article.php?artikel_id=6177 This was my contribution to the “summer hole” (today 35 degrees – in the shadow). rolo Addendum: here another test where a Volvo won – guess which one…?http://www.autobild.de/search/article.php?artikel_id=3855

  • Flashed in Switzerland; Trouble Trouble

Hello colleagues, I was flashed in a tunnel in Switzerland a few weeks ago: It was 80; measured 97km/h -5km/h Tolleranz= 12km/h too fast – 79,.EURO!!!! If this is not the hammer, it is Switzerland, like with food or hotels, if you find what it is not much, but expensive. (To all Swiss, nothing for bad, but it is like it is) It’s about time that we get the highway toll introduced (if we don’t think too stupid) to us a little bit again. So now it’s a little better (79€ mpfgrrrr…) Greeting Flodder

  • Courageless VOLVO dealer

Hi! Short anecdote: to finally get rid of my JEEP Grand Cherokee (stands for 8 weeks and eats money) I wanted to give him in payment. And because I’ve been a fan of the VOLVO since my XC90, I wanted to buy a new V50 2.0 D for my son, at the friendly one in Berlin. He knew that the Jeep was a prerequisite for the deal. He left my Filius the V50 for a test drive of several hours, which of course was very enthusiastic! The new car was as good as ordered! The VOLVO-man says that a payment of the JEEP would not be possible, not even for 22 TEUs (originally intended 26.5 TEU!). The car is currently “unsaleable”…Sprit prices etc… Too bad, I thought and drove the same day to my BMW dealer. He had the JEEP checked, calculated 30 minutes back and forth and now we have ordered a new 318i Touring EXCLUSIVE with frills (leather, sport, xenon etc). Color and equipment of his choice, delivery 3-4 weeks (Junior is happy!) and the JEEP they take for 25 TEU in payment!! VOLVO would have got it for 22 and I would have even accepted the delivery time (December 2004)! Too bad actually, right? Oh so: the leasing rate at BMW is even 30 euros cheaper than at the V50!! Are Volvo dealers just discouraged or even satisfied??? Ciao Michael

  • Steering gears defective

Hello zsuammen! The TÜV appointment just expired, was in April. Well, no time had and still a few things to do. Today I was sitting at the workshop of a friend of the master and we once took a look. What made me a bit stunned was the still existing pulling to the right while braking and driving. As we were so sneaking around the car, we noticed that the steering gives a cheerful “klagklack” of itself, if one with open hood on the steering wheel r On the stage the last doubts were removed: The TOTAL front axle is new, only the steering gear is not. And from there the noises came… After I phoned with a friend, who was himself until recently Volvo 850 owner, he said: Exactly THAT was also the reason for the abnormal tire wear on the VA. Not the sockets of the crossbars, but the steering gear. Well then. I will treat myself to a processed with 24 months warranty. The engine will be I’ll have a new car soon. It just doesn’t look like that. Greetings

  • Planned purchase of a Volvo V-40

Hello, we are planning to buy a V-40 in the summer. Viewed purchase price so around 2000,- . Desired engine 1.6 or 1.8 l. There are already models from year 2000. We have already looked here and there and I have seen that the models on the fenders are very rusty. Unfortunately not so in the Volvo matter, therefore we would be grateful for tips. What is to be observed? I noticed that there are relatively few models with sliding roof. Thanks

  • Practical cargo volume

Hello In the comparison test two measured values are usually given for the cargo space: Minimun: i.e. to lower edge seat, i.e. cover roller maximum: i.e. with folded rear seats up to under the roof. For me, however, a specification is missing, which is certainly more practical also for other families: rear seats in normal position, disconnect hooked, loaded to under the roof. Here the V70 would have to have advantages over Passat, BMW etc., because the tailgate is quite steep. What is your opinion, Who knows this mass? Greetings Elmar

  • V70 II – Gear damage M56 – rumbling noise after gear and ZMS

Hello, I suffered a gear damage after 330,000 km in my 2004 V70 with M56 manual transmission at the end of October. It started with short-term grinding noises that could not be localized. Then it came to short-term mechanical blocking when starting up. In the end, massive grinding and flapping noises suddenly occurred. I got an exchange gearbox from Sweden via bilgelsbasen.se. Running speed 220.000 km The offer in Sweden was significantly larger and cheaper than here in Germany. I also know the valuer and trust the information about the mileage. Last week it was replaced by a Volvo workshop. A worn two-mass swing wheel was detected and also replaced. The clutch was already renewed in 2018 (running capacity since about 60,000 km). The rear bearing was also renewed, as was the shaft sealing rings on the differential housing and the crankshaft sealing ring. Only a womping noise under following conditions occurs now: – only in thrust mode – speed window from 1800-1600 1/min – gears 3, 4 and 5 – Once clutch occurs it stops – When braking it remains unchanged I have then: – again mounted the summer wheels: no change – all engine bearings released again, motor moved and tightened again according to torque specification: no change – gear oil changed again (I wanted to do it again anyway). As to be expected no change The workshop has checked external wheel suspension and joint shafts, no abnormalities. I should first continue to drive so. Because it only occurs in thrust and depends on engine speed, it can actually only lie on one of the following components: – dual-mass swing wheel – clutch – rear bearing – gearboxes with increasing catastrophic significance Do you have many Is there another idea or (very unlikely) have you ever experienced a similar case?

  • Oil change in automatic transmission

Greetings, I changed the oil in my automatic transmission this weekend. I expected red and brown oil after 207,000km. But what came out of it was rather deep black crude oil. The amount of suspended fuel was no longer measurable. I think 20,000km and there would have been only gel out. Remember, Volvo does not make an oil change in the life of a V70. Should you drive this car for about 10-14 years with the same oil??? So I think with every 2nd or 3rd engine oil The result of this hour’s work was slightly oily hands and a super soft and direct switching gear which would probably take part in another 207,000km. The oil cost a total of 35€. So, I will make a change soon, because then the dirt in the converter has also dissolved. The oil has had really visible small mud particles in it. The oil would z was still lubricating, but I think the wear would increase. I’m glad to have made it anyway and can only recommend it to all automatic drivers, for example it doesn’t cost much. A new transmission is more expensive…
