  • Winter suitability V40 2.0T

    Hello, I have been driving my V40 2.0T (phase 2, 163 hp, no traction control) for 8 years now. With different winter tyres and profile depths (only brand tyres from the dealer) I noticed that traction is consistently underaverage compared to other vehicles. Even with some rear-drivers a better advance is possible with snow. Since I am traveling with many different vehicles, I say that it is not due to my driving skills. I try to drive with snow with little gas and otherwise rather down-touring to avoid turning the front wheels. I am surprised that the traction problems are hardly addressed in forums. Especially in areas with lots of snow and gradients this would be a clear exclusion criterion for me to buy a vehicle. What is your experience with snow and ice? What are the reasons for the bad traction ? Weight distribution or differential ?

  • Engine control unit was defective and still doesn’t start

    The engine control unit was defective and was repaired by a specialist company. The processor was fixed by error 2 “Data problem between Eprom and processor ” so they told me that. Now I have the engine control unit installed again and my car still doesn’t start. Does not sound,only the control displays light up,battery is full but it doesn’t do anything. Error memory I still can’t read out (was not before the rep either) . Can it be that it needs to be learned to drive the control unit,although the processor is not new? Had already with Volvo tel. but the knowledge had nothing to have had with it even without the car!!!It’s clear that you also want to earn money. Wanted to have a precise error description from the company that repaired the engine control unit,but more than “processor error” could not tell me. Would be nice if I could be helped.

  • T4 Idle speed fluctuates

    Hello people! My problem-) The idle speed sometimes varies so much, that the engine almost runs out, but then catches itself again and goes up again to 1000 u/min, the whole “sawing” takes about 1 min. and then everything is normal again! Problem is also he does not regularly, but apparently only “if he wants to annoy me”! Last week he had 2 times, then again months nothing! What can that be? The friendly finds nothing!   • Installation of antenna amplifiers

    Hello, I’ve been having bad FM Emfpang for a long time. I’ve had an antenna amplifier for a long time, I know the V40 has a built-in, which I want to hang between radio and antenna cable in between – therefore hope for a good radio reception, should my original antenna amplifier be at best defective – to my knowledge, however, what the emfang has not been really good since the beginning (new vehicle) – the local one is OK – the others are however too weak in the signal, so that the sound comes clean over. Now to my actual question: can someone tell me what exactly the cables of the external amplifier are connected to? The red cable comes to the ignition plus, clear. Only what is the wire and where does it have to be connected to? Or is it enough to put the antenna cable in between and clamp the red wire to the ignition plus?

  • Brakes Deletion – How long?

    Hello Have changed the 2 rear brake cheeks and loins at the T4 today.. It was quite good – to the very end.. Be sure to have kicked the brake pedal for 2 minutes – But neither air came out nor got sucked in.. (Put a tubing from the valve into a glass full of brake fluid and then pumped with the brake pedal) Did I do something wrong? I can now fully thresh the brake pedal – the car brakes NULL… (except in the front something) Did I just stop pumping too early while unloading? I also noticed that the screw that has a hole in the hose for the brake fluidity to the piston… Maybe that’s because of that?

  • Questions about oil trap changes, coolant changes, oil filters etc.

    Moin moin! Since my Volvo pushes oil on the valve cover and the cooling water is rust-brown, the next few days I have to: -release oil -replace oil trap(clogged, new is da) -unscrew hoses of the same free -unscrew oil pan, clean and screw it again with a new liquid seal -release coolant -clean the whole cooling system with correga tabs and plenty of water -refill new coolant So and now my questions come to the action 1.In order to solve the oil drain screw I have heard a quadrant nut, since the screw is an inner quadrant? Some of these things I believe to be right for myself! 2. In order to replace the oil filter I need a key from Volvo(~15€), or is this also possible differently? 3. Must be used as a coolant the green from Volvo or does the green from the accessory shop, or the supposedly high-quality red from Audi (work there)?

  • Toothbrushes ripped, what now?

    So now it’s time for the ride. my timing belt is torn. and that’s only 40000 km after a new one was pushed in by the friendly one. That was 13 months ago. The car is now again at the same friendly and who thinks that everything is broken, valves, cylinder head, the belt of course and he means for the repair costs one gets a new engine. Then I thought, because the Riehmen died so young, this would have been a typical case for the Kullanz of Volvo. And if that had been within 12 months it would not have been a problem at all, but because that was the idea to ask me for the checkbook for the longer, if I was nice enough to stretch all 15000 KM, that was not me. What can I do.. should I write a letter to Volvo myself. Should I never drive a Volvo again. Or hire a Gutacher, who checks if they really changed the roles at that time.   • Installing China Navi

    Hello, have the following problem. Have my parents bought a 7 inch Navi. It comes from China and we have some problems with it. On the radio we had constant noise in the transmitter and at the car start (if the car stood longer) the Navi has always resected itself. The with the noise did not get there, but with the reset. Have the Navi first sent back with suspected on cold soldering point or software Probs. Now my question: Have following Volvo V 40 1.6 year of construction 01.06.2001 Have seen so far no Can signals on the radio plug. Is the correct that the Volvo has no Can for the radio yet? Because my consideration was still to look at the connection from the Volvo. Not that there are problems, the NAvi a signal expected or a signal from the Volvo comes back what always turns off. Has someone the plug assignment from the radio plug? Have bought for the Navi a plug on ISO and this dirks to the Navi. In the meantime, no one knows what can be done. Because the occupancys were also predetermined by the plug and the assignment from the Navi can help.

  • Misignition and bad cold start behaviour

    So now again the hopefully last problem…… So after which probably my ZKD is healing, I have to look for other reasons. Problems: 1. Read out error memory: ECM-44 and ECM-45 misfire 4. Vibrations at 2000-3000 tours. If the engine is warm, I have only these vibrations, engine has power What have I already done: spark plugs are almost new, not yet exchanged. Zündkerze 1 shows however some “abschlagungen” after workshop lime, but I have 0 water consumption on 1000km air filters show no cracks or damage. (work sparely tipped on this) but the oil hoses would be well controlled.
