  • V40 Phase II, internal filter change!

Hello dear friends! Today I bought from Lidl coal filter for the filter system during cooking. These filter mats can be used well for the internal filter. Old filter out- filter mat from the frame- to cut new coal filter- to insert inside old frame or fix with double sided adhesive side -ready! Reinstall and very expensive artificial. This costs a maximum of € 2,50. Thus this alternative is better than what you have to pay with an internal filter with coal, namely over € 19. Also Sparkel1 has the same opinion! Many greetings from Torsten

  • Volvo V40 BJ2000 Source for seat covers + headrests disassembly

At my wife’s Volvo (V40 BJ2000) a seam of the cover opened on the driver’s seat. For this reason I wanted to have a seat cover above the driver’s seat and the passenger’s seat so that it doesn’t look so stupid anymore. And there they were my two problems: 1. Remove the head restraints. I made a smart move on the internet like this and it worked on the passenger’s side. But on the driver’s side I don’t get the head restraint off. I feel and press the mechanical lock but nothing happens. The head restraint can’t be pulled off. Is there another trick I don’t know anything about? 2. Reasonable seat covers. What I wanted to pull over there were universal seat covers but the result didn’t convince me. The cover just didn’t fit properly and stretched over the seat. So returned. Does anyone know a reference source for suitable seat covers of better quality? The V40 has airbags in the seats. Would be great if someone could help me here. Patrick

  • Engine flushing

I think it’s time for the right answer. With the upcoming oil change. The following is available: Liqui Moly Pro-Line engine flushing. As this has probably never been done with the engine (2001er 2.0T with 270,000 Km down), it is advised to remove the oil pan afterwards and clean it. Ordered or bought this here: Oil pan seal http://www.ebay.com/itm/360930201714?… As far as I have read, there is no fiber gasket for the oil pan because it is made of aluminum. Oil pan seal set http://www.ebay.com/itm/20191120506?… The manufacturer Reinz is by the way the first supplier for BMW, Mercedes Benz and VW. To the sealing set I have a question. Do you really need this? I ordered it because it doesn’t cost much, and I don’t want to experience any surprises when I have the bath off. And of course, get the oil filter from Bosch on Mahle now, because it looks like the original Volvo Nvio filter has got a lot of oil.

  • Engine control light on!

Hello dear friends! Since yesterday evening the engine control light lights up! Also yesterday I was able to stop and switch off the engine, wait 2 minutes, tap area turn on again and off again. Then first ignition of the engine without any problems start again. Engine control light went off. This morning no problems with the ignition of the engine. There was also no unround motor run or detonator. After a short stop at a parcel transmitter, I re-ignited the engine as usual, again no problems of the engine and no lighting of the engine control light. We drove on a quick road and I had to speed up to 90 km/h, when I reached the city of Trnava I had to go down to 50 km/h and hold it at a traffic light. They stood on red. Then the engine control light went on again. Even after holding again, engine stopped, wait and engine restarted the engine control light remained on. I have the assumption that the Lambasonden are defective. Or what could it be? Sunday we want to go far away on holiday!

  • Timing belts skipped

Good morning, with my V40, the starter defect was when a new one was installed, apparently the tensioning roller has disassembled into its individual parts and when starting the timing belt has skipped. Since then, the motor can only turn around 1/4. It is fitting during the start process and it did not work any more accordingly. How big is the chance that it will run again when a new strap is laid on? and if the head has to go down, what does one need of material and seals afterwards for assembly? Thanks already.

  • Heating won’t work

Hello together, have a VOLVO V 40, year 2001, with air conditioning automatic. Unfortunately, the interior heating no longer works, although the temperature knob is on the red stop. It only blows cold air. I had the problem twice, both times it has repaired itself. Now it seems to be permanent. The cooling water temperature is quite normal (display needle is horizontal). Has someone already had similar experiences and knows where to go to fix the problem? Another Macke is that the blower rotation number constantly changes, although I don’t change anything at the settings (winder level, air distribution, temperature). This is also independent of whether a certain blower level is set or the turner button is on “automatics”. This Macke had my Volvo from the beginning (used to buy it in 2013). Maybe this is somehow related to the current problem. For your help already many thanks in advance! Greeting Garfield

  • V40 – Engine replacement – B4204S2 instead of B4184S2

Hello guys, I’m new to Motor Talk and looking for information, something new, or ? 🙂 My V 40 (9101-820), Ez. 8/2000 with the B4184S2 engine and M5P manual gearbox unfortunately has engine damage, the adjustable camshaft wheel is broken. Now I would have a B4204S2 as replacement motor. Everything seems to be the same optically, except for the clutch, but I can also replace it. I have only doubts if everything is running afterwards in relation to the transmission, control unit, sensors etc.. Not that I get shivers later with the exhaust values. If a 2L instead of a 1.8er, I could live with it. Has someone already done such a conversion here? Thank you for your answers. Greeting Rainer

  • V40 1.8 90KW Bj 2001 Engine turns but does not start!

Good day dear people! I have the problem that my V40 doesn’t start any more! To the background: After a normal ride into the city the vehicle was turned off;by letting it go again, a bad clack came out of the engine compartment (he has done sporadically already many times) I suppose it came from the camshaft adjustment! So engine off and since then the engine turns when it jumps through but not on!Zündfunke is there! But it sounds as if he does not build up compression at the start! Can someone help me?

  • 1 cylinder no more compression!

The engine is running “unround” ! In the troubleshooting I found that the first cylinder no longer has compression! I suspect “burned valve”! What does the fun cost me about? Or better to scrap the moose (V40 combi from 98)??? Many years ago I stayed with an “Audi” on the highway with engine damage and the estimate of the cost of the workshop, only to determine exactly what broke, exceeded the “replacement value” by far!!! Thanks for the help!

  • Does the petrol pump from the 2.0t fit into the 1.8?

Hi, from my tank ventilation problem thread: Unfortunately, on my Benuin pump unit the connection for the back running petrol has broken – and the only new units that I can find here in the USA are for the 2.0t. I drive a (European) 1.8… can I just exchange the whole unit like that or does the problem (pressure ratios?) because the 2.0t as far as I know has a higher flow rate? At Volvo or Skandix there are at least two different articles. Otherwise, I would have to put the pump from the damaged housing into the new one, the fuzzy egg to have to solve twice this shrinked hose would be nice to spare me… Importing one from Germany would take forever. Greetings!
