  • Tire questions? Personal contact with Conti on 08/09.10.2010

Hi, with our Hyundai Coupé we have the problem that because of the slightly lower mileage the tires age instead of being driven off. After 6 summers (EZ 8/2005) the standard Hankook had become uncarable (zero grip in wet weather, car breaks already in slight curves hardly controllable first in front, then out back and can only be driven with spinning wheels). The Goodyear Ultragrip 7 winter tires were also from 2005, so I got a little early on Cont 2 weeks ago. i winter tires TS830 changed (Goodyear Ultragrip 7+ was not yet available), as we therefore also stayed out of the half-year change run. I have not been able to determine the weakness in dryness as determined in the ADAC test, but it is most likely to be painful from my point of view. My Michelin PA3 for the Mercedes will hold another winter before they fall below the mandatory limit of 5 mm for Austria, there will be a change in autumn 2011. the new Michelin A4 or the Conti. Now I’m lucky to have a few tests with the Conti in the snow on 08.10., then on 09.10. we go to the Contidrom. I am one of the 10 lucky participants who can participate in the SnowChallenge of MT and Continental. So if you have a few very special questions about tires, I can take them with me to the meeting and present them to the tire technicians of Conti. lg Rüdiger:-)

  • Nightvision – bullshit!?

Hello friends, wanted to start a little discussion about the Nightvision system in the new S-Class. My opinion: The system as such is not bad and certainly also promotes safety in the night traffic, but: Two essential flaws: 1. You have to look down at the Tacho to see if what comes. Do you do that just before two pedestrians or something like that appear out of the dark? 2. The system only works as long as it is not widely used. t. If it should eventually also prevail in the middle class or even in the compact class, then cars with Nightvision blend each other when they meet as if they were traveling with driving light. What do you think? Gruss, Guatemala

  • Kaufberatung SEL 600 W140

Hello, got a tempting offer, and still has to see if I can afford the flag ship at all. A well-known sells his W140 SEL 600 Bj 92 with 132,000 Km on the tacho for 5000. I’ve already seen the car and it seems to have no Mengel according to my car mechanic cousin. Make a pretty good impression, just have to be polished again, then it is like new. The only problem would be the maintenance, or rather the consumption. The owner of the car mei I’d like to know how many liters you can drive this car if you’re on the road. It would be annoying if the money for such a nice car wasn’t enough for gasoline. Thanks in advance.

  • C140 420s ???

Hello, I intend to add a W140 as a coupé (the 420) in the summer. I have now honestly not been researching for a long time, but can conclude from conversations with fellow drivers in my DB workshop that this car with this engine is very reliable and unproblematic. What experiences have you made with this car? Driving feeling – acceleration behavior – weaknesses??? Thank you very much Greeting Robert

  • Quality impression W221

Today I had the pleasure to sit in a W221 at the IAA. The general material appearance and workmanship quality is just as tadllos as those of the previous models. But what impressed me brightly was the sound of the falling doors. No joke, but they sound exactly like the doors of all the models from the times of W124 and W126. Simply great! Quality you can hear!

  • Soundscape in the W220 – quality

Hello everyone, I recently decided to change my old W126 500SE from 1987 for a newer model. My 500er is actually still good in shot, almost no rust. Compared to our Audi A6 Avant 2.4 (Bj1999-115000 km) it is however a bit louder – from 180km/h it is annoying by wind noises on the outside mirrors. I have now driven two W220 from June 1999 test. One had 149000km on the speedometer, the other 156000km. For both cars was from 150km/h a roaring of the The first W220 had 17 inch rims and 6 months old tires, the other car had 16 inch and 4 years old tires. Is the noise in the W220 normal? Are the cars quieter from any model maintenance, can one buy perhaps only from year 2000? At the DC they could not tell me anything, only in He the W140 should be quieter. Does anyone have a mopf – overview here? Best regards, Frank

  • Secret about V-Power gasoline?

Since now almost 10,000 km I drive the V-Power petrol…to see if actually “more power” can be felt. “100 octane = 100% power” is promised. Compared to 95 or 98 octane, the power would have to be 5% or 2% higher!? The engine sounds somehow better, and when turning up in a stand not so metallic but more humming, which after me can only be because the knock sensor reacts differently or is influenced… but of more power I feel ir On demand at the petrol station, which energy value the petrol has more than the other types of petrol, suddenly the secrecy broke out, and no information was given… Company secret, so it was called. Instead, it was argued that there would have been special and high-quality additives in this fuel, which prevent the wear on the piston rings and deposits on valve intakes…so that the performance will be increased… From test reports on the internet, I degenerate ommen that the performance cure is no different than with other types of gasoline…there seems to be no definite statements about the additive effects either. Does anyone know more about the subject?

  • W140 activated carbon filter

Does anyone have experience? How do you notice that the large activated carbon filter is “congested” for ventilation? Do all the smells of the street then come inside or smell stuffy, as with “hemps in the sofa”? I have recently had such a sweet scent from the ventilation, as if it had swallowed a vanilla scent tree and did not manage to choke it out again… Thanks for hints.

  • W126 – but which ones?

I’m currently looking for a new car.I’ve enjoyed the S-Class of the 80s for a long time and I thought that I’d look at it a little bit more closely. So it’s supposed to be a W126 SE or SEL.The engine should be a little smaller, just because of the fuel costs.Which weaker is the one to recommend, the 260, 280 or 300?In addition, the color should be rather dark, i.e. black or black blue or similar. Is it necessary to lie down?

  • W140 cables in rear door panel

In the rear door panels it has these ashtrays on the left + right side. I removed the ashtrays once (they have just folded) and found the wiring for the speakers and the window lifter there. But: I found out that there is a loose cable plug in the left and right door panels, which probably belong to nowhere. It just hangs so… as if it were just prepared for some connection.
