Hello, I want to get a G as a new car soon, but I’m not sure yet what kind of a car… it’s also supposed to be a purchase, not a leasing. I have the choice between the new G500 and the “old” G500 as a special edition, alternatively the G350. My driving profile is rather short distance from customer to customer, everything <10km. 1x per week also ~50km. Year about 20Tkm. We also have a 2t caravan, so far our VW-T5 pulls, but the G should do it in the future. In the "land" I actually hardly go When I go on holiday to the beach or worse dirt roads, that shouldn't be a problem with anyone. We don't have to talk about consumption, that's clear to me. When I look at the used car, I only see the 350, which makes me doubt the quality, but which could also be due to the fact that the G500 is sold less often. How reliable is the G350? I would prefer a petroler out of my belly, but is it still true in today's market? When I compare the petrol engines with each other, it is mainly the consumption that speaks for the new one and the selectable chassis that I find annoying, the start/stop automatic...For the old one, the interior speaks with the AMG steering wheel (well in hand), the bumper and the larger cylinder capacity with hopefully greater reliability and longer lifespan. What do you think about it? PS: a rational car would be a small car....but I don't always want to be reasonable:-P

Hope for the future
Just catch me reviewing the last 15 years of G-equipment. It has been adapted again and again, which is completely ok, but I miss one or the other painfully. Maybe someone reads this from the factory (hope dies most recently)… – Seat adjustment in front new and indeed so that the seats can also be lowered at the back. Just have to be used a new console for it. He gives drivers, which are larger than 175 cm… – The front seats are getting thicker (yes, climate, etc.) but these are now real chunks, the passengers in the rear really take a lot of space. You could also offer sports seats from the factory as option. For example, those of the C63 AMG, these are the right parts. – The rear seat should finally be moved to the rear. Because only rails have to be used. Then in the rear there would finally be enough space for passengers. – Sliding roof glass as option. Was there already 12 years ago in the G55 AMG, is really top. Could you offer it again. – 16″ option again, the brake disc has to be smaller. The big things are besides cheap anyway not the bringer compared to a real sports car brake. 1-piston rear…hello? 320mm punched with 4 neat pistons front and rear out of the Porsche modular is the way to go. If you don’t know how to do it, ask company Movit. That would be a jump forward…maybe there’s something else i I have forgotten

Top restored G class – H license plates
Hello dear G driver. I have to get a G-Class next year (or 2017). In any case a slightly older one with H-mark. What I just want. Perfectly restored. Wear parts, bodywork work I can do myself. Let the rest saddle like seats or the painting and preservation of the paint and the body as well as engine and gearbox overhaul in the workshop. I thought about 10,000€ – 20,000€ for a “good” old car. Then first abbeize the whole paint Now I would like to know how much money I should put into the car and in which places. Is a budget of 40.000€ to 50,000€? – engine overhaul 1000€? – painting conservation 4000€? – seats 1000€? – gearboxes 2000€? -other 10,000€? -Becker Mexico Ratio 2000€? -Stand heating 1000€? Would this be realistic? Then I would have another question for the motorization as well as regarding the For fast driving and AB I have other cars available. In addition, automatic or manual transmission? PS no matter, acceleration no matter. Mainly G! It should definitely be a 5 door, long, black G. As I imagined it as a child. Can you help me further with the budget presentation? Best regards, Lukas

Fan G270CDI
I’ve been driving my G for 4 months and I’m only getting to know the “fan” in this really hot weather. At a cooling water temperature of about 100°C it starts when you give gas. It sounds like a loud noise, like a turbine with its wind noises. The engine noise comes into the background. It’s not unpleasant, but loud. You only hear the wind noises, not the fan motor or the like! Is that normal?? If enough wind is recorded, the noise disappears. I hope there are some G270 CDI drivers who can tell me about their vehicle!

Rubber mats for the current 463
Hello together, the waiting time until the delivery of my G is unbearably long. Luckily I can deal with the equipment during this time, which I still need. I am currently thinking about the rubber mats. I had also found and studied a thread from 2014. Unfortunately, many links to recommendations are no longer available and hopefully there are more reviews in the meantime, so I will open a new thread for this. In the future, my G will move 90% on the road and I would like to be well equipped for the 10% terrain, so that it is also fun. This also includes good rubber mats, which are not slipping and are as accurate as possible, so that you can also jump into the G with neat mud on your feet, without completely messing up. I like the following rubber mats visually, after which the original ones of MB a high wear is said: Weathertec: http://www.weather tech.com/…/ GFG-Shop: http://www.gfg-shop.de/…/product_info.php?… What are your experiences or what can you recommend? Thank you already in advance Gruss Ralf

Mercedes G 270 CDI, 400 CDI engine and electrics
Hello, I’ve been looking for a Mercedes G 300 TD for a long time, but unfortunately this is more difficult than I imagined. It’s impossible to get a 5-door with the engine and the equipment and at an acceptable price. Now I have become friends with buying a 270 CDI or 400 CDI. Since you read many horror stories in the forums I have the following question. Are all in principle bad, so problems with engine, gearbox and electrics, or just the first of them? Can you say that the G’s are more reliable from a certain month and year onwards than the ones before? Furthermore, I had read somewhere that the 400 CDI had changed the engine from a certain date on and this can be seen from the engine cover (photos). Is that true and what has been modified? Thanks for your answers and if one has to sell one or if one knows who sells one please report one. Thank you in advance. Claude

G 270 CDI squirts during load changes
Hello, I drove behind my own G today and am quite surprised that this smokes black when starting up and changing gear from the exhaust. Despite retrofitted particle filter for the green badge! With a vacuum cleaner I would be less concerned here. Here at the CDI I am not sure if this is so normal. I make oil change after Assyst and is used Aral 10-W40. The oil consumption is with approx. 1 liter to 15 – 20 thousand km normal I would say. now 112000 km and is from 01.2004. Why does the diesel smoke?? Is this because of the combustion??? Filters are all renewed!

Winter bikes for the new G with ET 43, what about the old rims ET 63?
The winter is hopefully still far away, but you can already think about it. I ordered a new G, which will be delivered in November/December, thus quite a candidate for winter bikes. I have so far on the G Astaroth rims in 7.5 J x 18H2 ET63. The new models all have the wheelhouse widths of the AMG and drive ET43. I would now like to use my old winter bikes further, especially since the rims are perfect and the tires only one winter hi Is it possible to balance this with track plates at a reasonable price? Or do I have to buy new rims? This question certainly comes to others here in the forum sooner or later. I also asked these questions to my dealer, you think about it (or let me think about it). Greetings OpenAirFan

Large model maintenance for the G-Class W463
According to a current Auto Bild article, the G-Class W463 will receive a large model maintenance from 2016 (model year 2017), while the W461 series will remain almost unchanged. With the most important data on the W463 facelift: width increase by 10 cm. Significant weight reduction by 375 kg; new frame construction made of aluminium. Multi-link front axle with lower and upper crossbars. Engines: Diesel as R6 with 313 hp, gasoline as R6 with 367 hp and 4.0 l V8 with 462 hp as well as an AMG-Varian 9-speed automatic. Electric power steering. Edged silhouette with almost vertical windows and steep rear flap is maintained. Adaptive LED matrix light. Moving air guide blinds. Numerous assistance systems as well as head-up display available. The G-Class is to be built up to at least 2027.

G as a daily driver, but which only?
Hello and good evening together, I had feared it, now it happened: my W460 (280 GE) is so much fun for me that I decided to buy a G as a daily driver and leave my BMW X3. Time could be around the beginning of next year, so I have enough time to research. However, I am still at the beginning of the selection, which motorization is the “best” or most sensible. Driving performance should be about 12 to 15 t km per year. It has to be the long version and not a switch, but automatic. Heating is mandatory. May of course be an older used one, absolute must is the green environmental badge. Otherwise I have a real problem here in the Ruhr area. It must not come too brutally, so AMG versions fall out and maybe the V8 is already a bit too fat. Diesel or petrol engine is not important for the driving performance. I don’t know that I have tried different motorizations myself so far, the package reads with a 270 Cdi not bad at all. Of the 400 Cdi I am at the moment a bit off, because it is supposed to be (allegedly?) quite problem-conscious, which therefore does not exactly meet the function as a daily driver. But that is also only provisional, as said, I am at the beginning of my research. To this I would be very happy about helpful tips here from the community, everyone certainly has to be e personal experiences and preferences, logo, but certainly also basic recommendations. Thanks already now and many greetings from Dortmund -/PECCO
