  • Ignition contacts burn through all the time!

Dear mt ́ler, my Chevy Bel Air Sedan (built in 1964, 6-cylinder small block) really gives me a lot of pleasure. However, there is a huge problem, which obviously also my specialist workshop for US-Olftimer (Car Connection Braunschweig, with which I am otherwise very satisfied) does not get under control: In the course of an engine overhaul, all ignition components were also renewed at my request, as there are spark plugs, ignition cables, ignition coils, ignition distributors and contacts. And now the following happens all the time: The car runs about 300 – 400 km really great, starts both cold and hot spontaneously and is therefore actually fully suitable for everyday use. Then, however, it starts to go out more and more often, both in idling and during the ride, and then immediately starts again. However, the whole thing repeats itself more and more often and increases up to false ignitions. The cause are then every time smeared Zü ndkontakte. These have already been renewed for the third time (!), including the capacitor, which is in the ignition distributor. To the ignition coil it is to be said that the old original “Delco” was first used and then – in the hope that it would be the cause – it was replaced with a new one. But the problem still exists. Does anyone know advice? Already now a “Thank you” for tips and your time!

  • Gasket brake power amplifier W123

Hello everybody! On my 1979 W123 the brake power amplifier is a bit leaky at the front. There is always some oil running down at the connection point where the balance tank is attached to the vacuum chamber (see photo). Is there a seal/O-ring behind the screw connection that you can easily change? VG

  • Monza no benefit

Hello, my Monza 2.5 E , Jg 82 no longer has the full power. Kilometer level 150 ́000 acceleration is no longer intoxicating(was never) but it was a little better before. Highway max. 140Km/(formerly about 195) and on the mountain on the track no more faster than about 80-90Km/h.(is depressing) Until recently I have always added lead to the 98okt until I have read in several forums that this will pollute the valve shaft seats and therefore cause a compression loss In addition, these people have been driving without lead additives for a long time and without any problems as they wrote. However, I only drive without an addition after he had no performance (of course only as a Sunday car) compression tested – on all 6cylinders 10-10,5Bar I find as too little, but if, why on all cylinders? I don’t find logically that all compression loses. In addition, too much oil (from the crankcase) accumulates in the suction hose, which pollutes the LMM. I replaced the LMM and additional air slide, because the cold start was also very bad. (Cold start now perfect again) Does anyone have experience with these problems and maybe give me a tip whether it’s the valves or the piston rings that could slowly give up the mind. Or maybe another idea? Thank you in advance.

  • Help! I have to drain the cooling water at my Manta B, because it is not frozen under zero

I have an urgent problem: I noticed yesterday that my cooling water freezes below zero and my workshop only meant that I could do that with the draining myself. I can’t do that. I solved all the bells earlier, but the hoses are hard like stone, they can’t be pulled off. What else is there to do? It’s in an underground garage, but it’s supposed to be up to minus 12 degrees the days. I’m just getting full on the hose as it goes on now. or other workshops will certainly not bother to go there, towing service had once made me a scratch in the car. I can not do that either. What else do I have for possibilities? cut all hoses through? or does this even bigger problems? I could then fill nothing more with frost protection

  • Problems with Rochester Quadrajet

Hello friends of the well-kept fuel destruction After a rather puncture-free last season, I got caught again. A good 2 weeks ago I was so kind and donated a new carburetor to my Cadillac. As far as everything was good (workshop master said: dat ding ham wa put on it, keys run around and the car is running). However, I noticed that at high speed the engine almost went out. If you let it come down a little bit from the speed again, everything was perfect. low touring cruising went problem-free, does not give gas up to the high speed range. On the side of the workshop there is no intress to look at the vehicle again. Now I have the question it could be a setting thing? That it at high speed (almost out) or could have something to do with the spraying. (Wherewith at first sight the nozzles of old carburetor and new look identical. Petrol pump is also everything in order. ( Carburetor should according to Rockauto the suitable be) Remote diagnoses are difficult i know, but maybe it could help me contain the causes more. With friendly V8 roaring greetings Chris Cadillac

  • W123 280E or four-cylinder, my first classic

Hello dear Mercedes experts, I saved some money together and would like to buy my first classic. I really like the W123 and it reminds me of my youth time. Actually I thought that I want to buy a & cylinder, however these vehicles seem to be really rare, on mobile I found only 2. Can someone help me a little about the engines, years of construction and weak points. Are the 6 cylinders much more popular and therefore so rare and thus also significantly more expensive? Which purchase price must be planned for a good vehicle? Many questions at once, I know:-) Thank you for the help

  • US garage door opener

Hi you, unfortunately I didn’t find out about the search function. If anyone knows anything, I ask for a link to the thread! I’m looking for a solution to set my garage door opener in the Cadillac DTS to my garage gate. It should be said, is an underground car park, so I can’t access the drive. So it has to be solved at the car. Thank you for your help!
