Hello, my wife has had a 451 with 71 hp petrol engine BJ 2013 since the beginning of this year. Current KM-Stand: 40000 Since the day before yesterday, a rattling noise comes from the rear as if something were grinding. I then raised the car, wheelhouse shell and V-belt protection away, and look…. the middle screw of the alternator is out and vibrates on the belt. It is practically locked, is prevented from jumping out of the belt. I tried with a Fork key to screw the screw, which apparently doesn’t work, because it must be held against the rear or the nut is missing. Strangely enough, the alternator is fixed and the belt is still on it… what does this screw hold exactly? Does the engine have to go down to get the screw fixed? I have Googled a little and read several problems with breaking bolts… but the problem should probably not occur any more at my year of construction, right? Thanks and Greetings Fredy

Immobilization problems
Hello, my 450 convertible has the following strange features: I can’t unlock the immobilizer with the key sometimes. It’s funny that it always happens suddenly, for several days / weeks and from now on no more. The batteries of both FBs have already been changed. The behavior of both keys does not change. Even a workshop visit is difficult because it can be unlocked easily during the workshop visits. If the deactivation does not work, I wait pa ar hours/days and it just works again. It occurs in all weather conditions (wet, dry, cold, warm).. Someone an idea ??? where sits the receiver of the key radio signal? could a plug have a wacsound here? The ignition itself goes on quite normally.. I can also switch light / open cover.

Was I pulled over the table?
Hello together, I was recently with my Smart 451 in a free workshop. There was to be a large inspection according to manufacturer regulations. This included new oil, oil filter, air and pollen filter, new brake fluid, new spark plugs and the complete replacement of the coolant (every 4 years). I also had an error message from control unit: Lambdasonde, Bank 1, Sensor 1: voltage too high. The agreed price for the inspection was 250 EUR. When I picked up the car, I already saw in the checkbook that the replacement of the coolant was not checked. On my request, the boss said that the coolant was still “peak” and of such good quality, because it was changed directly in the smart center four years earlier and to the doll stuff that they tipped in there, one would even come as a normal workshop That’s why I would even worsen with a change in quality with it! But as compensation he installed particularly high-quality air and pollen filters for me! That seemed strange to me, but I left it at first, paid and drove home. That was exactly a week ago. Now I wanted to operate my windscreen washing system today and realized that the tank was empty. I also noticed that the door hinges of the passenger side continued to squeak. I then saw that the trailer of ATU was still attached to the container of the brake fluid from a year ago. That made me stubborn and I checked the brake fluid with a test device for its water content. The lamp lit yellow, < 1%. Since new brake fluid may contain the highest 0.05% water, the lamp should still be green after a week, if the brake fluid is still in use. I would be very interested to see how you see this story about the cooling fluid and whether it can actually be that after a week the lamp does not shine green when checking the water content in the brake fluid or whether it is rather the brake fluid of last July of ATU? Thank you in advance!

Vehicle flashes after parking
Hello forum! My question refers to the following vehicle: Smart Fortwo / Year 2000 / MC 01 And now to my problem ?? I park the car, pull on the hand brake and set the switch lever on R. Then I get off and lock the car with the radio remote control. The car flashes 3x . After about an hour the car starts to blink like from ghost’s hand up to 20 times all around!! Almost as if I had turned on the warning flashing system. This is how it works for a few minutes and then it’s quiet again for a longer period of time. Then the game starts again from the beginning. I have had new batteries used directly at the Smart Center in Essen with both remote controls } unfortunately the problem has occurred again afterwards 🙁 I hope on your esteemed expert knowledge and would be very happy about helpful tips!! Sincerely, steiger1808

Smart CDI 450 Alternator to lower the rear axle
Hello first of all am new here 🙂 First of all thanks for the many tips and instructions I could already read here. At our Fourtwo Cabrio with a CDI engine with climate compressor the alternator is over. It is a Fourtwo and the good one has already 192000km running power on the clock. The generator turns but there is nothing more to the battery. I already had the right rear wheel down and removed the covers to look. wanted to know now o b I can expand the alternator myself in my garage without lowering the engine. I wanted to do it with THIS instruction as it would simplify a lot. But there is no climate compressor to be seen on the pictures that apparently work from above, where there is no passing with climate compressor. My concerns are the climate compressor that is in the way and what I could destroy so much if I sink too far. Can I get the alternator out if I only work from below? Have already 2 offers for the exchange of workshops which are at 740Euro at the Smart dealer and at 540Euro at a free workshop, which is clearly too much for me. Have no stage and no pit. Has someone already done this on the same model and can give me tips? Love greetings from the Murgtal

Smart gear shift flashes
Hey people, the smart of my. brother 2011 71ps 35tkm made noises last week while inserting from the backward passage. They were away the next day. Today suddenly the symbol for the walk circuit {so the A sign in the tacho} and the small screwdriver started to flash. There are 2 screwdrivers to see only the rear little flashes. The sc has only appointments in 2 weeks. Maybe someone has a clue what could be going on and can so without any reservations further fa Lg

Reduce cooling circuit > Engine heats earlier
Hello together, my mother drives a cdi and complains that the engine gets warm so late. Can you modify the cooling circuit so that it only cools with the small one and the big one stays “clamped”? Is this possible only in winter and in summer you can change it again? Thank you very much Pat

Survey: How satisfied were you with your smart in 2011?
The year is slowly coming to an end, it’s time to raise the winter tires again. We hope you’ve come through the year with your mobile kit so far! And to find out if that’s the case, we want to start a small survey again in 2011. As every year, the manufacturers have done a lot to interest us drivers in their products and services and to satisfy their customers. But: How satisfied were you with your car completely subjectively ? Or with the service that every car needs every now and then? So: How was it, your personal car year 2011? Since most manufacturers not only regularly read along on MOTOR-TALK, but are also in contact with us, we are going with the survey result as well as your praise and your criticism in the comments aimed at the manufacturers. Therefore, in the comments, write what you liked about Smart in general and your Smart in particular in 2011, what is even better and what is more convenient than I was so dazzling!

Cabrio Diesel: 2x 100 km to work and back daily?
Hello municipality, looking for a car with low fuel consumption for a work path of 100 km per distance (80 km BAB, 20 km city) is my question: Who has experience with similar driving distances in continuous use with a coupe or (even more interesting) a convertible? Please only diesel experiences. What do you like – what is not so good? What do you think of a heater for the winter? How much capacity does the tank have? Does this make you 1000 km a week? Safety at the Smart is a topic that I can’t assess. But is a rather “feeling” topic. We have a family coach that consumes about 50 Tkm about 8.1 L diesel – I don’t want to use it for 2x 100 km. Thank you for your contributions and greeting, Knut
