ICh has already read several times that the smart wouldn’t be so good for the highway, is that true? Why not? Spring comfort ? Problem with track grooves ? Volume ? What is the realistic usage at 90 – 100 km/h ? I have 50 km to work every day and 50 km back and am more the one who gets stuck at 90 km/h on the right track. The track is 80/100/130 partly open. With an A 170 CDI I am sometimes at maximum speed, where you were allowed to drive 190 km/h and otherwise always 20 km/h s Has much 10-12 min saving brought me on the complete track and more than twice as much consumption. By the way, how is the sound system in the Smart Fortwo?

Big problems with the Smart Convertible ForTwo with 84 HP Turbo
My question and request, are there any other people or smart friends affected by such problems with such a Smart (a Smart Convertible ForTwo with 84 HP Turbo)? Please read this once and maybe you have a tip on how to proceed.1. On May 25, 2010, I wrote this letter to the Smart Headquarters on the advice of my workshop. ___ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ . News (25.04.2010) today for the first inspection I delivered my vehicle to my contract workshop. There the customer complaint was also recorded again: resonance noise on the engine (drowning). (customer no. 505831, order no. 410489 00, contract workshop: smart Service Roßbach Automobile, Poppenbütteler Weg 5, 22339 Hamburg) At a speed of between 60 and 63 km/h, the smart in automatic mode switches already into the fifth gear and thus drives undertour. Dadurc h creates an unbearable roaring and vibration in the vehicle interior. Since the average speed in the city area of Hamburg is 60 – 65 km/h, I would therefore have to do without the advantages of the automatic operation chosen by me when buying the smart. I can only avoid this disturbing noise if I switch from the automatic operation I prefer to manual switching operation. After the workshop had also switched on the plant, I have the following factory information The following feedback from the factory: … depends on the driver as a whole when the gearbox is switched on. If the driver is sporty, the gearbox will switch later and will couple faster. If the driver is very comfortable, the gearbox will switch earlier and couple slower! The gearbox has different switching parameters, which always adapt to the driver. However, the customer always has the option of manually moving in. If he is uncomfortable with the switching characteristics … With this answer one can perhaps satisfy a novice, but not a long-standing “smart friend”. As I take from the above answer, the problem described by me is known to the factory. A vehicle manufacturer with a definitely not small development department, would have to do everything possible to solve such a problem, especially since with this noise level driving has become almost intolerable. I would also like to ask you, after consultation with the workshop master Mr. XXX from my contract workshop, to schedule a factory engineer for a joint test drive. I would be very pleased about an answer with a solution proposal. If this solution proposal is positive, I am also happy to recommend the vehicle to my colleagues of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk. Here again all important data: Vehicle type: Smart FORTWO Cabrio, WME4514321K262813, Ke nnmark OD-TM677, date of first authorisation13.03.2009 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ May 2010. Please apologise for our late answer. We are pleased that you have again chosen a smart as a “long-term smart friend”. We regret to hear that you are dissatisfied with the switching behavior of your vehicle’s automatic transmission. In order to get a better picture of the situation, we have consulted with the service management of the smart Service Hamburg and our technical department. Our result in detail: From the background in the system We find that your car does not have a technically detectable error. Be sure that your smart is in a state of comparable vehicles. Therefore, no improvement can be achieved either through changes, adjustments or other work. Therefore, it would be nice if you could be convinced during the next rides that you can use your smart without restriction. e to Tangstedt xxx smart Customer Service (This message has been generated electronically and is valid without signature) Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center Maastricht N.V. Don’t jump right, don’t run right
Hello, the Smart ForTwo built in 2000 600cm3 displacement CDI has not started since today. History: Last Saturday he did not start in the morning, it had rained through the trunk. We are still looking for the leak. The engine was wet from above. In the evening he jumped again without any problems. He ran the whole Sunday without any problems. Then he was not moved until today. This morning he already did not start again. Even this evening nothing went on. the feeling that the engine is running weak. As soon as you turn off the starter, the engine is off again. It smells like burned diesel from the exhaust. Unfortunately, we do not have a read-out device for the fault memory. Is there cheap that you can recommend? The next workshop is unfortunately about 40km away…;( thanks for your help

Test drive with Smart, but how?
Hey guys, will be doing a test ride on Saturday with a Smart Fortwo. However, I have never driven an automatic car, but only the good old switches. Now there is a “automatic” smart and a “switch” smart. But the latter is not a real switch, but as I understood, a combination of automatic and switch. Which would you personally recommend to me, can I even move a smart forward?

high smart consumption now in court
Hello all, I was surprised about the high usage of my new smart petrol truck a year ago and drove to the Mercedes Smart dealer in Recklinghausen to address the topic there. It consumes about 6.4-8 liters. I drive half of the highway. I was sent away unfriendly and repellent with the statement that I would not fill up properly. (You read correctly) After that I am to the lawyer to clarify the matter. Now after a year is by court an expert has been commissioned to determine the actual consumption for 3 days in the presence of smart representatives. I will tell you about the outcome. The new smart – a step forward?
First of all: I think the smart is interesting and good conceptually. However, the spread seems to suffer from the insane price and the childhood diseases, this is hopefully spared by the new one, although the engine and gearbox are not further developments, but completely new. Apparently, there is a certain relationship to the new Mitsubishi i here by the way. Unfortunately, the dashboard now looks like one, here you see the saving clearly compared to the predecessor. A step backwards also means the larger dimensions. If it is now even heavier than the predecessor, the consumption also suffers. Here, however, one has to wait for what the new gasoline engines bring – the drop of the turbocharger and the significantly higher compression (11.5:1 instead of 9.0:1 are promising despite the increase in the displacement, also in terms of durability. The diesel, on the other hand, is the old, slightly spiced up, but wg. durability here probably does not go much more in terms of performance In Smart anyway, I don’t think of a complicated, expensive and weak diesel. In conclusion: bigger, heavier, faster – especially with this kind of car – is not a step backwards, but rather a step backwards. And: if he really wants to count in, he has to become significantly cheaper. Such a car *goes* only as a mass product.

Reliable: Smart with over 500,000 km
Hello, have you already taken a look at the current issue of the car picture today? If so, then you certainly also read the report about the smart that managed to cover 520240 km with the first machine and first transmission. I think that’s great, especially shows that the car and the engine are far better than their reputation. It just depends on how you handle the car. In the car described in the newspaper it is a 5 year old Smart cdi that is The costs including inspections amounted to around 9400 €, which means in cost, 0.01 € per kilometer. All in all therefore absolutely no bad car. The defect were among other things once the coupling, carrying joints, otherwise the usual wear parts. Good leak in the area of the oil tank and in the cooling system showed itself, but with the mileage by normal. By the way, still 1200 € were estimated as residual value, whereby really questionable is t, whether someone is willing to pay… .. Best regards to E.D.

200,000km!
Hello finally! My ball CDI 03/2001 has exceeded the 200000 Km mark. Facts: approx. 4,15 liters average consumption, min. 2,8 l max. 6,2 l. 3777,61 € for maintenance/rep./TÜV/insurance. Tuning at 13000km. After the first inspection self-maintenance (oil 3l SAE10W40 light running oil, air & oil filter approx. 30€). 2 sets winter tires 1 set summer tires + additional 2 rear so. tires by def. shock absorbers. 2 new windshields (stone impact) 1 new glass roof (stone impact) 107000km new turbocharger cracked at the Krummer 143000km new rear wheel bearing 146000km new clutch/diesel filter (SC 976.66€) 159000km windshield wiper rods lubricated 160000km V-belt renewed 199000km new rear shock absorber 201000km turbocharger cracked again at the Krummer (newer already purchased) and exhaust slowly dissolves. Disadvantage: In winter with snowgut (from ca10cm) one can overtake the rear part or get into slingling, because of the front tar cutters and low weight. A SR can not be switched off. Expensive inspections/replacement parts at SC. Status: Very satisfied, driving every day 200km work path I hope it stays that way. From there it goes to 300000 km (2007) Greetings Hary

Buy smart for studying? Or would you rather buy another car?
Hi I will start my studies in Freiburg in mid-October and need a car (purchase price about 450€) with which I can drive home from my study place on the weekend (about 111km of it about 22km highway) and shopping in the city etc. However, I do not know exactly which car would be the most suitable for me, but through a friend I am on the Smart fortwo. Would you recommend this car to me or would another (e.g. a Ford KA) better to my needs p assen? The fuel consumption of the smart is on average about a good 5 liters, but what does it look like with comparable small cars? Does the smart cut off from the maintenance costs in general better than the others? What should I pay attention to when buying? Does diesel or gasoline pay more? Another question about the engine: I have heard that the series had up to 2000 problems with the engine. Should one rather take only one car from year 2000, or is this nonsense? How much hp would you recommend? So I want to be able to overtake…. Which car would you recommend to me? Thanks & Greetings Madcat
