  • Vibrations during braking on the rear axle

I’ve had a fight with our Smart for 2 weeks.First the scratching on the rear axle sporadically then it got worse. Both with the foot brake as well as with the hand brake. Then I opened the brakes and found a leaky brake cylinder, so brake completely new at the rear! No improvement. So the brake felt opened 10 times and looked for the error.Even the brake drums were first turned off then renewed and tested for sure 4 times. Then all engine bearings new! No improvement. Wheel bearings both renewed.Even then no change. Drive shafts I had already out, both ok. So slowly I get the talent. If another has an idea or solution.

  • High fuel consumption

Hello together, for almost two months I am a proud Smart-Pure owner. But problems are already coming up! I don’t quite understand that with a full tank I get only 200 km far! City traffic is clear.. with highway it is 175 km. Is that normal? Year 2001, 40kw, 78,000 km! I am grateful for every advice!

  • Start stop broken?

Hello, all together, can someone tell me if the start-stop function (SSF) is like weather or temperature dependent? Yesterday I drove about 25 to 30 km and about an hour later the same track again and the SSF jumped briefly to green, but almost immediately back to orange again. We had it yesterday -6 degrees. Today morning -10 and my 28 km at work the SSF remained on orange. However, now it is noon 0 to -3 degrees and suddenly it jumped and stayed on green. I had already at 1 degrees the problem that it was bad and sometimes only on the 2nd attempt. Search for the cause. Battery has been changed due to this problem in Dec – but did not bring any improvement. Yesterday it looked at a body builder. He said that everything fits: alternator, engine, cable, battery….. looks all top…. The engine was also exchanged last year… Thanks for your answers!

  • Facelift radio better?

Hello, the new radio looks already more noble than the “old” and has the USB port ahead. The audio package has remained at 700€. If you take the sound system and the pre-equipment, you get to 490€, a aperture costs around 30€, i.e. 520€ + radio. Would that be a good alternative or is the new radio improved, so you prefer to take the audio package? Have already got a super mini USB stick for the glove compartment, but if it hangs on an accessory radio, it doesn’t bother me either. Or maybe just the pre-equipment and the rest itself? Would it be good to know if you can get more out of the sound system speakers with a good radio.

  • 451 H7 changed, complete insert rocking

Hi 451 municipality, I changed the H7 dipped light bulb at my Smarti. But there is still a problem. Now it is that the whole lamp insert swings upwards and downwards. I don’t understand, because you only have to fold up the clamps to change. Have tried to look inside with the mirror at the back, but could not see if there is anything loose there. Does one of you know the construction and therefore understand why the whole bet swings upwards and downwards???

  • Smart 450 alternator problem…

Moin, moin, I have a problem with the alternator from a Smart 450. The following, to the Smart of a friend of mine was the light engine dead, she was completely fixed and the housing also had a few fine cracks. I expanded the old alternator and we ordered a new one. And today I installed the new alternator. Well, now the problem, the new alternator is not loading and the battery lamp in the fitting does not go out either. It is a Smart 450, built in ’99 , 0.6 liters , 45 Ps… The old alternator was a 65 ampere and had 3 connections, once M6 and twice M5. But it was only a cable connected and it was on the M6 bolt (B+) The new light engine is a 75 ampere, bischen more strongly hurts. And the new light machine also has 3 connections again, once M6 and twice M5. I have the cable again to the M6 bolt (B+) exactly as it was previously with the old light engine. But unfortunately I can’t also use the new light engine.

  • Smart 451 doesn’t start anymore

Hello guys! I’m new here and hope I ask the question in the right area!? My Smart 451, Built ’07, 84 HP no longer starts. When I turn on the ignition, he starts to control the gearbox in the back (or whatever he does there), then he stops and it starts to beep (or whistle, is difficult to describe). When I try to start the engine, it clicks (as always) in the fuse box and somewhere in the engine range. It sounds like he continues to pull electricity and exert himself until it clicks again after a few seconds and this “effort” stops again! But unfortunately the engine doesn’t jump on. I already tried to find something out in the net, but unfortunately I didn’t get flush. Brake lights light, battery I removed and installed again, fuses are in order. I have photographed the part that beeps (or whistles). Maybe you can tell me 1. how this part is called and/or give a 2. tip, if/how can I fix the problem?

  • Pen at the hinge of the trunk flap devoured

By chance I discovered today the crooked “stick” on the hinge, which fell immediately when touching. Does Smart really not use winter-resistant material here? For a slightly over 1.5-year-old vehicle very dislocating! Only because I planned a workshop visit tomorrow anyway, I get a little excited but if you had to go back to the workshop for such a small***, it would make me very angry (time is money after all).

  • Winter rides -> 20 degrees fluctuating water temperature with warm engine

Hi, I have the “phenomenon” with my Smart 451 mhd, i.e. the petrol engine. He got a new engine (now run 3,000 km) and I used Geizhal’s old thermostat again. From time to time I log the water temperature with an app via Bluetooth on the mobile phone. I read the data directly at the temperature sensor during the ride, because the Smart has no water temperature indicator. The water temperature fluctuates between 90 and 70 degrees on these cold days at short notice. So the thermostat works, but the temperature fluctuation is already high, if this drops by 20 degrees and then rises again. It is a constant temperature fluctuation in the motor-side small cooling circuit. . It is just the question whether the overall system with such a small engine behaves technically due to that. Large water quantity, small engine, fast thermostat opening and probably too much opening path of the thermostat per degree of temperature change. Could it possibly be a misinterpretation of the desktop developer? I have no similar observations?
