Hello, last weeks I bought a Smart ForTwo Passion, 52 Kw, first registration 01/2009, with 87,000 km on the clock. Now I noticed while driving with open window that there are strange noises, similar to a chain rattle, when accelerating. These noises do not occur when giving gas in idle. The car drives also flot and switches properly. It is check book maintained and got an oil change with synthetic oil 5W40 at 85,000 km. I read on the internet that it can quite come to a rattle with the 451 smarts. Do I have to worry now? Or should I just drive the car further? The dealer said that it would be all normal with such a small engine and the noises could come from the differential, but that would also be normal.

Situation: 2 weeks ago I was running on the highway and then pluupp was the power and I only came to 80 kmh or accelerated on it at snail speed. Procedure: I saw some solutions on the Internet and carried them out: -turbochargers completely changed with tube. -Zündkerzen changed (were slightly black) -low pressure ventilation valve changed -cylinder compression tested (all ok.) What else can it be, I didn’t notice any change to the advantage. Smart had made a error reading at the beginning, and that was it.. Turbo —> Errors —-> No pressure? Vll the mixing housing ??? Thank you already….. Smart fot two BJ ́99 ATM with 35 TKM 54 hp.

I’ve been reading myself a little bit, but I think that my questions are better off in a new thread, because they are only partly about a special model. First of all: I’ve had my driver’s license for a few weeks and I’m now looking for a smart. As the first car (and because of the budget) of course a used one. Maybe you can give me some advice about this? Basically, I’d like to put on a BRABUS because of the look, 98 hp. Insurance is a lot more expensive, though, the fuel consumption is certainly also. Is the question whether it would not be a 84 hp turbo or 71 hp for city traffic and country road… however, you can find the turbos only rarely and then mostly over 100,000 km… I would estimate the annual kilometers at 6-7,000 km, the smart would be planned for the next 3-5 years. That would be it first, maybe you can give me some advice so that I can narrow down my search further. ^^

Moin all together I would like to buy a smart as a second car I don’t care about equipment, engine I thought about the 54Ps but don’t have to! Is there anything I should pay attention to?? How much km does such a small engine or from how much km do I have to reckon with repairs?? Budget is around the 1500Euro less would of course be nice 🙂

Hello again! As the title already says, my car doesn’t go straight. With straight steering wheel position the car pulls quite clearly to the left. In order to drive a straight track I have to correct the steering wheel position to the right. But also then the car does not drive straight on by itself, instead a constant counter steering is necessary. Also with the corrected steering wheel position to the right the vehicle pulls to the right. I try to correct the handlebar a little bit to the left, there are two results: Either, I correct too strongly to the left, so that the car then drives to the left, or I correct too weakly to the left – then it pulls back the car back to the right. I hope I could express this somewhat intelligibly. My guess were the tyres and/or adjusted track. Since the tires were due anyway, I had to pull new tires on it and let the axle measurement be carried out immediately. According to the mechanic, the car actually pulled something to the right and this should be fixed now. Result: Since the tires are now new and the problem was not completely over with the old tires, I should not be able to stop the wheel source.
