  • TDI: “Technology from yesterday”

As the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) has just published, German cars end up far behind the competition from Japan and France.http://www.spiegel.de/auto/aktuell/0,1518,370152,00.html: “With their passion for perfection, German car engineers tend to produce flops. Instead of using filters, they wanted to trim engines in such a way that they produce little exhaust gas.”

  • Brake pads changed, but what did I do wrong???

Hi, the search function did not reveal anything that was already before … I changed my pads on Saturday with the help of the book “So wird’s es” . But I believe I did something wrong … Only don’t know what …. To the value path: wheel down, with 6 hexagons the 2 screws loosed and the brake caliper removed … disc measured (was still ok and also without bars) and then it started with raining *kotz* I therefore only checked the smoothness of the sleeve in the brake caliper, this however nic it was cleaned with a bottle brush as in the book. It seemed to me that it was not necessary, it was very easy … everything was cleaned and put together according to the instructions. In itself everything was without problems. To this day I drove about 50 km, but had this feeling that it did not brake as well as before the “repair”. So I operated the brake pedal very easily with the left foot and gave it gas at the same time. Result it was to feel that the coverings were not smooth h “have let go of the disc”, so they still cut on it. After ner 1 sec there was nothing more to feel when accelerating … So I looked if the disc started biting, because this “permanent” grinding on the disc is certainly not in the sense of the inventor and see since the disc got easy e occasion colors … What I don’t understand is this cleaning of the “bust” really so evocative, also did I feel it would be smooth??? It certainly isn’t true, because he could be pushed in without any problems … Since I certainly need a brake system for my conscience, I would now repeat the whole mess again, just this time with new windows. Was with Pitstop and they wanted to make for 210 Euro (ats disk + coverings) , a lot of wood … Therefore the question are the “Set ́s” offered at E-bay for 60 Euro or are these under no circumstances to be recommended??? But if they are for my Polo (60 HP SDi Bj 98) v on the reliability are ok, what did I make flat the first time??? Thanks for the answers. Greetings Naik Polo 1.7 SDI Bj 98

  • Why doesn’t VW build a GTI anymore?

Hallihallo! VW – as we all know – founded the class of sports compacts in 1976 with the Golf I GTI, at that time still with 1.6 liters capacity and 110 cheerful horses, which are still fun today. Occasionally I can pilot such a one, an acquaintance has a 1977. The performance spiral turned further with 1.8 liters and 112 hp, later in the Golf II there was then a 16V with 139 hp and with the Golf III the end was reached with 150 hp. Since the Golf IV there is only another GTTI, which is more conceptually a successor of the Daihatsu Charade GTti than one of the Golf III GTI. Only with the Lupo there was a GTI. Why do you think VW has said goodbye to the GTI concept and has taken over the (not only) unloved Daihatsu concept with me? Oh yes: If someone thinks that I would want to fight against VW: It’s not just with VW, Opel, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Mazda, for example, go the same way – but they didn’t invented the GTI, therefore, I’m here. • First car searched 500€ / month

Hello, I’m looking for my first car and I’m just going to write together what I’m so interested in. Maybe someone has a good idea. Brief history: I’ve only had company cars (Audi A3 Cabrio, Audi A6) or high-quality car rental cars so far and I’m pretty spoiled…. Now I’m looking for my own car: – driving performance approx. 15,000KM – 20,000KM / year (20km city traffic daily to work, the rest of the long distance) – budget incl tax, fuel, insurance max. 500€/month – It should be a used car – brands: Actually only Audi, BMW or VW comes into question. I love it at the moment with an A6 Avant, Bj 2007. It is available at Autoscout for about 20,000€ or a 3rd / 5th Touring. However, I also find a convertible very attractive. Is there a possibility to finance / lease a convertible and after 1-2 years (when the offspring comes) to a station wagon? My problem is also that I have no idea what a car a month of side food I’m 24 years old and I’ve had my driver’s license for 6 years. Probably the insurance for such an A6 isn’t just cheap or? As I said, that’s what I’m thinking right now. Does anyone have a few ideas? Thank you and many greetings

  • Looking for a van with 7 seats – which are recommended?

Hello! My wife and I – we are looking for a van with 5+2 seats, like the Zafira and the Mazda5 offer. Which are there and which are recommended? The Mazda5 is unfortunately very expensive – a Zafira would be affordable. Are there alternatives? We want to buy such a car used, it should not have more than 90tkm and should not be older than 5 years. Do you have any tips for us? LG, Schlaumy

  • Forester Diesel: And another clutch

A happy “hello” in the round! 66,600 km and the clutch slips. Repair around 700 EUR, Subaru takes over 50%. Yes, if my car had been out of the five-year warranty and had run 266,600 km, then I would have felt the 50% as extremely generous, because after such a mileage the replacement of a clutch would have been fine and I would not have really expected a subsidy. But now seriously: 66,600 km and the clutch is gone? Hey, I’m driving t 1982 car and have brought some cars to 300,000 km, but I changed a clutch in time only on my first vehicle (VW Beetle 1200 L, 25 kw/34 hp) and that at 220,000 km. Since then I also drive with trailer operation, but clutch rush? Never again. So I claim that it can probably be rather less due to my driving style! So overall I am really satisfied with the Forester, but this clutch somehow made me think. h was dimensioned. I only hope that this new clutch is more resistant than the old one. Oh yes, in this context I probably also got a software update, because since then the Fori is somehow less splashy, needs 0.2 liters more diesel, but runs quieter overall from the engine. Be interviewing my friendly times about this at the next service. Have a nice day! TomCat64

  • Forester (SJ) Diesel – Defects incandescent candle

Hello together, since May these years I drive my first Subaru and am totally enthusiastic about the vehicle above all about the interaction of the diesel engine with the CVT transmission. Now there is unfortunately the first problem, an obviously not quite functioning glow plug acc. error code (P066C). The yellow engine control lamp lights up and the error messages in the display say: a) The exhaust cleaning system must be checked b) The starting aid must be checked. According to the friendly one, all this is connected with the fact that modern diesel engines require the glow plugs not only during the start process, but also in certain driving conditions to reduce the soot. As far as OK, everything is on guarantee, however, there is only a date towards the end of next week. Now to my actual question the friendly one could not answer either: Will the DPF Regeneration is still carried out when so many functions connected with the motor control are switched off? Are consequential damage to fear? Many greetings frankx63

  • h1 experiences

Hello,am new here. I am interested in a Hyundai H1 Travel. Have read various reports about the vehicle and intend to buy such a car. New! However, the H1 has some disadvantages, according to various internet texts. Are the benches really only with tools to expand, there are no side airbags and is the heater really so bad. And xenon also does not exist. At the moment I drive a used A6 station wagon. I drove a T5 before that. Transporter with good equipment. But I didn’t want to pay the VW prices anymore. Therefore, only A6 station wagon and trailer. I use the vehicle as a family coach and as a workshop car, therefore the trailer. But I can only afford a car. I am looking for a new vehicle now and the H1 I noticed as an alternative to VW,MB,Ford etc., which concerns the price. Technology and benefits…… don’t know. Can you help there. I’m squeaking

  • Help! My mini has broken brake discs!

Hello together, can someone help me? I presented my Mini Cooper Cabrio Bj. 2004 to the TÜV on Friday. Unfortunately not very successful, because my mini shows “significant defects” on the brake discs left back. The crowning thing is that in front of me an age-old folding Daihatsu with small defects got the badge – and my beautiful mini doesn’t?! The mini has 53,000 km and even the gentlemen of the Tüv thought that this shouldn’t be that with a 3 year old mini the Bre The brake performance is also worse than on the other side. I will still get in touch with my mini dealer today and hope for BMW’s coolness! Is there anyone in this forum who knows this problem?? Would I be pleased if you have contributed to this! Many greetings ahampel

  • How much more would you pay to make it a mini?

Hi, everybody, I read recently that in a study by the Centre for European Economic Research it was found that mini and Saab drivers are willing to pay a particularly high surcharge for their brand compared to other brands. They tolerate a surcharge of 50 percent or 40 percent compared to a Toyota reference model. Comparison: BMW fans would pay 31 and Benz drivers 37 percent more for their brand. a mini and a similarly equipped and motorized polo. How much would you be willing to pay for the mini more? I’ll start with: 25 percent surcharge I would make…
