  • A few questions about the new Smart 😉

Hello Today I picked up my 2 year old used Smart (10.000km). Everything is perfect, but I still have a few questions… 1. Is there information about battery voltage, engine (cool water) temperature, oil temperature somewhere? 2. Sometimes the automatic has switched down too early. That does it exactly at speeds in urban traffic of about 50-60kmh. What do you do then? The engine starts to roar because it runs underboard. I don’t want to manually switch down, because the automatic should be used. 3. The tank lock is not locked when the vehicle is closed. Ergo can throw something in. What do you do against it? No matter? The engine makes some sounds unknown to me after longer driving. I don’t know if that’s right. Sounds like a high frequency fast nailing of a diesel engine. But is not always… I have to observe. Smart greeting Thomas

  • Air conditioning refill – yes or no? – Audi Cabrio 1992, NG

Do I have to replenish or net? Situation: Car was standing half a year now, I always left it for a short time in between. I couldn’t start the climate because the ambient temperature was below 5 ° C. Okay so far. Audi partner told me once 2 years ago, usually I don’t need to replenish it, only when the performance is decreasing or nothing is going on. So, now started, climate is switched on, climate is running. Then given some gas, suddenly you hear how it is cracking and climate is off. Then this game gets a few times again, now it’s going to be full again. Do I have to replenish it or net, what do you mean? I don’t want to destroy anything by waiting too long at the climate or avoid unnecessary switching it off during the ride, because it only goes on the compressor clutch if you don’t notice it and let it turn on. Audi is now only shut down19 years young and never done anything about air conditioning.

  • Who offers more (Smart Diesel CDI 451 list of defects)

Hello and afterwards happy Christmas to everyone. Had the last days some time to summarize my experiences with the current Smart Diesel (01/2008) and just over 50,000 driven km. Unfortunately, it is now really up to my neck. Maybe the pdf helps one or the other in their own troubleshooting. Of course my other two smarts were not always error-free, but what I have experienced in the last months with the current CDI 451 now, my tolerance limit blows by far 🙁 Short to me: Ride now for over 9 years and about 320,000km Smart 42, this is my third – had a Limited One year 1998 – CDI Built 11/2002 – CDI Built 01/2008 Ride NUR long distance on the BAB with speeds between 100-110 km/h, daily approx. 150km greetings

  • Prius II on main use on the AB, full of sin?

Hello together, I play with the idea of buying a Prius II. Currently I drive a Ford Focus BJ 2003 1.6, which actually runs great. However, since I am on the highway every day a total of 130 km and on average so 7.2l Super consumption I think about buying something more economical. Now the question: My “travel speed” is always about 130-140 kmh. As mentioned above I am there with the Focus at ~7,5l. What could I achieve with the same speed with the Prius? Does someone know up to which speed the electric motor works? Since the 1.5l engine is quite small, I have doubts if I would be more favorable with a Prius. Does anyone have any experience there? PS: A diesel is generally not possible for me. And unfortunately also not the Prius III (max 700€ budget). Thanks already and greeting, Mick

  • Family with 3 children – Prius or Auris Touring?

Hi together. After you have decided in Cologne also a driving ban and we live in the Cologne environmental zone, we consider ourselves from vehicles from the VW group to turn away and buy a Toyota hybrid, because I stumbled while researching about many positive experiences and facts. Since we have 3 children (11, 7, and 5) should have the new car for 2 child seats and some space in the trunk. Background is that besides the children, who always want to take something with me, I am still volunteer child football coach and always take materials also with us and it can also be that we drive with the car also times on vacation. Currently we have a VW touran where some things fit in. I am aware that the Prius and the Auris Touring can not keep there completely, because of the other construction and the luggage room form, but it does not have to be exactly so much space. Have I often seen a bit also oriented towards the vehicle lengths: Touran: approx. 4,40m Auris Touring: approx. 4,60m a Prius are about to spend a few of the alternatives, but the good ones 50.

  • Varnished brake discs

Hello, I bought new brake discs for my smart here:www.at-rs.de/beitrag/items/brake disks_rost_corrosion.html I have bought these with the paint of the brake pots knowingly, in order to be perhaps a little prepared against rust. Today the discs, which are to be installed tomorrow, were delivered. What is very surprising to me is that the discs were completely painted against the picture under the above link. So also the inner surface of the pot and also the friction surfaces. On the friction surfaces it will certainly be braked off after a few times, which is also in order. But what causes me a little stomach pain, that the inner surface of the pots was painted too. Although the paint layer is really very thin there, but whether that is so ok? Are brake pots not always totally blank inside? Would I be happy about a few opinions.

  • Why Smart

Well, I ask myself the question , Why Smart ? I am looking for a third-party car ( Used ), which is to be used 95% in the city . I have come to this by acquaintances and you see the things often driving around . Until now is the only reason for me , it is quite small . If I read here so the quality is probably not the best . The purchase price is not the cheapest . The workshop costs not the cheapest . The consumption is not the least . When I look around at mobile , I find a lot of Twingos , Pandas , etc . So , why Smart ? Can one of you bring me convincing arguments ? Why drive the Smart ? Harry

  • Match speedometer status with change or repair?

Hello, since I am thinking of changing the instrument that has not been functioning since the last days… or at least repairing all non-functioning things… I wonder if I can restore the function of the odometer/kilometre meter that died at a stand of 285,000 km. Is it safe to be mechanical with my 92er Avant. There are still a number of lights to change and I finally wanted to take an afternoon time. If the thing is not reparable… and I can shoot a cheap part in the bay, I would like to bring its km stand to mine, which should be at 330,000. I just want to avoid that if I sell it once SOLLTE… then I would need to find an AI with approximately similar km stand. Before the whimper goes off… I don’t want to sell the car or change the km stand to the bottom. I just want to avoid that if I sell it once SOLLTE… then the tachostand of a whole KI to the stone of stumbling. Will but also not have a part to repair with 45 km?

  • Retirement accident forfour – insurance zigs around

Hi there, I have a short question for you. Two weeks ago someone drove me on my smart back nicely. I was standing at a red light and the hind man wanted to stop braking! We were and agreed that the other fault was and have everything cleared up! So I had to get into the smart center and a cost estimate and send that to the insurance of the accident causers. Lt. KV was the damage about 660 euros (net). New middle part of the bumper, working time, painting ect. Jetz, however, write me the opposing insurance, that I have to bring my car net to Smart, but should order a free workshop because they are cheaper. Now they have paid me 200 euros less. What should I do? What do you think about it? Thank you for your help!

  • Finally he’s gone!!!

In the summer of 2008 I chose a Smart Pure with a few extras. The reason for the purchase of the smart was the “low” fuel consumption and the “favorable” maintenance costs. After a year I had enough of the car, you can not imagine. Constantly problems! From regularly emptied battery to exorbitant consumption values. My writing to Smart all remained unanswered – so much about service and customer friendliness. Now, after 2 years I got rid of the slingshots at a half-acceptable price and can make the following statement. Who thinks Smart is great is either totally undemanding or not well informed. There are better cars that are cheaper. Smart – does not need the world!!!
